The boats built in '94 and later are generally better than the earlier boats.
This represents a change in ownership of Donzi.
There have been various issues under all owners, but a lot of improvements came w/American Marine Holdings.

Good luck w/your search.

Thanks for the help I was also looking at this one but it may be a pain to get it in the US http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55987

George, my 1993 Donzi by Chris Craft is very well built.

IMO, the CC boats were, arguably, the strongest built... certainly the heaviest...

I would probably agree w/both of these statements, but there just aren't very many of them out there compared to AMH or Chisholm/Staples built boats.
And I take your word for those statements, but I've never seen one taken apart.

Sorry, I know this thread is old but boogie, if you see this, I would not consider a procharged 22 blackhawk as an introduction to donzi's. I have not seen that boat in person but have a similar 22 and would just warn that it requires experience to drive.

Interesting. OMC owned Chris Craft and Donzi in those years. The only thing that mentions Chris Craft is my yellow capacity decal by the throttle, Donzi by Chris Craft, Goshen, Indiana.

Barry,

the CCV would show OMC ownership but also on file with the USCG with the CCV mic would be the name and location of the factory. The main reason for the HIN was to enable a recall if something went wrong like a bad batch of resin or something else that would effect the integrity of the boat

I bet if you found a chris craft from the same era it would also have a CCV mic

your boat was built by chris craft in goshen
on steury ave in the plant that was steury boats

question I have been after does your boat have a reversed chine??

yes, so unless someone can post a pic of a reversed chine 22 classic made in florida during the staples era or early omc ownership. the engineers at chris craft tweaked the 22 molds when they got them from florida

Thanks ;)

And the question(s) I'd like to have answered are;
What's the distance between the stringers (inside to inside)?
What's the distance across the inner strakes (outside to outside, and this will be harder to measure)?

What was Chris Craft reason for the reversed chine?

I am sure the resident naval design gurus can elaborate but it will give the boat a dryer ride deflecting the spray downward possibly even adding some lift. I am looking for a butt shot of the 22 with the flat chine to show the difference

here's a shot of an 85 22 classic with the flat chine if you notice the water line stripe rides on the flat chine's edge on barry's pic you can see the reversed chine in the small white triangle under the water line stripe

Ok George...I got wet for you:wink:
inside distance between stringers...24"
inner strakes...(this is what made me a wetback this morning) 30 "

also a photo in the engine bay without the engine...so you can see the gussets location...

Thanks Barry! Good info.
Now we know that Chris added the reverse chine
(and Matty's right on all counts), but AMH did the
work on the stringer spacing and the inner strake spacing.

Matty, if you'll email the GIANT picture to me, I'll resize it

So AMH changed the stringer spacing and inner strake spacing? Is that why they started cracking? Are the gussets the same as in my hull? My friend Dan Nye, p729lws, had a 86 or 87 22, and his gussets were in different locations. I have no cracks in my hull. No rotted wood either.

gcarter

Barry, in the Staples era, gussets were all over the place, from none (other than the transverse frame in front of the engine), to about four on each side.
When AMH changed the stringer and strake spacing, they seem to have gone to four on each side and covered them. Also, they left the strake pockets open and set the stringers into the pockets, which is a good thing. Additionally, their stringers are about 2"-2 1/2" thick, also a good thing. The stringer and gusset material was often plywood (a BAD thing) and needed to be something solid, whether wood or a reinforced cored glass material.
The cracks seem to be limited to early 2XXX boats and may have been the result of a minor change to the layup schedule. Previous AMH and current AMH boats don't have the problem.
I've read that current production has the hull bottom cored w/a foam product.

George not my picture was on the server already I just posted the img code

funny out of all this info that I think the 22 was tweaked by CC but they left the 18 alone with flat chines and they splashed a 16 splash when they re introduced the 16.

wonder if they thought the 22 needed it or was more worthy of the mod than the 18
