Still testing and what Ive found so far is that this donzi design handles and drives a lot different then my 1998 28zx.My 1998 28zx 600+hp had a top speed of 75mph gps.The 28zx is a heavyer riding boat needing no trim from the trim tabs to run the bay. My 2007 27zr 496ho/425hp get a top speed of 68.9 gps and it will rock back and forth with a slight side wave action requiring trim from the trim tabs to keep it stable.I dont see a lot of speed lost from using the trim tabs.Larger trim tabs are needed with:rock: more horsepower and this 27ZR should run with the big dogs.

A Chief 600 or so and planes would be nice. Already has hydraulic steering.

A 27 is on the cusps of needed two engine, imho.

I dont think that two small blocks would fit?

Nah, not at all. It is probably lighter than my 26ZX.

I agree, with todays more reliable drives and fairly reliable big hp big blocks the boat seems perfect for a big single thru a single drive.

So many older boats were ahead of their time. The Cig 28SS or 27 Magnum would have been perfect with twin higher range hp small blocks thru bravo drives, they just did not exist yet. I still think the 27ZR is much lighter and shorter and would be best with single setup.

Yep, those are big heavy 28's.

I would love an old 28SS or Magnum with a pair of beefed up small blocks. Big fun:yes:
