can a 17 spline drive volvo be modified to fit a 19 spline shaft if so it will open many prop options

Matty has a point the Solas wheels are making their mark, less work!

running a cupped michigan wheel 14x22.5 now 5000 rpm but it feels like it is slipping at the top end what would you recommend

PM Griz he has done a ton of testing and should be able to get you off a loaner to try.

running a cupped michigan wheel 14x22.5 now 5000 rpm but it feels like it is slipping at the top end what would you recommend a solas 19 if you want to keep it up in that rpm range a 21 solas would probably drop your rpms a 100 or so

check with griz if you know what HP you have he can give you the right pitch

Ralph Savarese

why would a lower pitch drop my rpm

mattyboy

cause you are adding almost 2 inches in diameter. the blade area is huge

a guesstimate with dropping 3 inches in pitch and adding 2 inches in diameter the 19 should keep you in the same rpm range that you are in now give or take a few rpm.

the prop acts 2 inches bigger than what it is stamped.

then we can talk about reducing your slip number by almost half.

most volvo props run 12-15% slip the solas is around 7-8%

I understand that theory but arent you using the prop diam to get the boat out of the hole than using the rpms to push the boat faster

I understand that theory but arent you using the prop diam to get the boat out of the hole than using the rpms to push the boat faster

the rule of thumb for every inch of pitch or inch of diameter is +/-200 rpm , the bigger the prop the harder it is to turn in or out of the hole at 1000 rpm or at 4000 rpm again with a prop that has a consistent slip of 7-8% thru out the rpm range the solas has a real bite on the water

compared to your 14 x 22 the solas will look like it came off of the queen mary

19=21
21=23
23=25

Ralph, I'm running a solas 21, with a stock 260 hp SBC and a volvo 280T drive. I can run it up to 5,000 rpm. I tested the 19 and 21 and just liked the way the 21 felt on my boat.

Ralph, if your prop will come off you can try my 23 Solas. It'll be available until this weekend, then I hope I'll need it. You can see how they hook up to the water and if your motor will turn it.

A prop can only be so big in diameter before it hits the drive. That wasn't a problem with my surface drives.

yes that's true , but the volvo 250 and up will turn up to a 16 inch prop.

be careful don't just assume it's apples to apples.

i had a 23 solas on a 310 hp and a 350 hp 1.6 setup and could not get it past 4600-4700

mike is making more hp and can spin a 23

look up randy carabelli biggrizzly here pm him for the props

look in the link his contact info is there

that's the best offer yet this way you can see where you stand and what prop and hardware you'll need takes all the guess work out of it

not sure those are the same props the sizes don't match up with what Grizz's has I also seem to remember that that was a special deal between grizz and solas.

those props do look to be similar just not in the same sizes, also look like michigan replacements and most don't go over 21 inches in pitch like the michigan wheels

that's a no brainer , seriously for those prices just to have a spare not to mention seeing if the 4 blade makes a difference plus you can't even find an alum michigan new over a 21 ;) my boat ain't even running but I may order a 4 blade to ;)
