I have recently purchased a 1999 22 zx with 496 ho 425 hp motor. It doesn't have a prop. What was the stock prop on this boat, and what prop should work best? What speed should I expect the boat to go? Thanks.

The boat comes with a Bravo 4 blade. This gives overall best handling and hole shot but will take a couple mph off the top speed. I have the same boat with a 502 and have gotten the best results so far out of a 27 pitch 3 blade Mirage (not Mirage Plus) that is lab finished at 76mph GPS. Then at 2-3 mph less is the 26 Bravo 4 blade which is a better hole shot and overall running prop.

I have tried various props, but still have more to try. At this point, with a prop change though would not be expecting more than 1-2 mph max difference from my best to date.

415, it is bone stock. You should be around 75mph GPS. Let us know how you do...

I recently blew the stock 350 mag mpi in my 05 22zx, and replaced it with a carbed built 468. motor made 561 hp and 554 torque on the dyno. I have the stock 1:65 bravo one drive and Im really curious as to what prop Im gonna end up running. Also, ive read 3 blade is faster but 4 blade will solve problems. Any guesses?

You might need to drop to 1:50 gears for strength and better prop selection.

im really curious at what RPM you made 561 hp and whats done to the engine. i could be 90% sure what prop you will need.

around 5100-5400 it made its most power.

4 bolt main gen 5 454, 60 over
steel crank
arp rods
9.5:1 comp small dome pistons
balanced and blueprinted
speedpro rings, clevite 77 bearings
crane hydraulic roller cam with vertical bar roller lifters
msd ignition
088 square port heads, stainless valves, crane springs, retainers, and roller rockers
edelbrock intake, holley 4150 850cfm carb.
:eek!:

Ill upload the dyno graph in just a few moments. We made 561hp on a 1000cfm pro systems carb, tried a demon 850 and lost substantial torque, took the 1" riser plate off and ran the holley 850 with 87 jets and its responded the best. I think the 76226 final hp number was in the high 540's, but it made the most torque of all the different combinations we tried. I think Im gonna stick with 850 carb and find a prop that will be just average and wont hurt my drive. I dont wanna be down the rest of summer!

Did a full vinyl wrap and new upholstery. Next day....blew it up. Typical boat forecast!!

nice looking boat!
sorry to hear about your misfortune.

not to hijack the thread but im a little confused.

Heads, its all about heads. First had a set of afr heads and the 1000 cfm carb i ran on it and made 530.

088 square port heads

im wondering how you made more HP with the chevy iron heads than the AFR heads. was the dyno run with wet exhaust or dyno headers? are the HP numbers uncorrected perhaps? just not adding up. the 088 heads typically make 450-475hp in marine trim with a 454, the mercruiser offerings even less.

so i not hoisting the flag yet but im seeing red flags.
yes indeed its all about the heads.

Dry exhaust, and i have no idea about the 088 heads. I can give you the number to the dyno shop and you can call and ask for yourself. You seem pretty pessimistic about a 454 making over 500 horse.

na, not really. just about one with 088 heads making 540HP under 5400 in marine trim. it effects your prop selection.

My boats only 22 ft, i think it weighs around 3500 lbs or more loaded. Any guess as to what size prop i should start with?

well that depends on your actual horsepower on the water. considering we are having a hard time nailing that down i would start with a 26 bravo or a 27 mirage.

this way when you convert to a bravo drive you wont have too much wheel.

I am running a bravo drive, with 1:65 ratio. stock prop for the 300hp motor was a 24 4 blade. I need to put a 1:5 gear set in but im gonna wait til summers over. With my ratio now I'm gonna guess 28 4 blade or 30. I didnt know if you had experience with 1:65 or not

i dont think those big wheels are going to do your drive any good...

another reason i said 26.
