I have a '68 18 2+3 with a rebuilt 351w in it. I have had problems with the charging system since the rebuild. I have had the orig. style externally regulated unit rebuilt and still no luck. Is there a good place to look for a new replacement unit, either internally or externally regulated?

Any numbers on it?

There is an oval shaped tag on the main housing which reads: ALK 6204 AY 5A
There are 3 terminals on the back of the unit. One (+), AUX and one unmarked. I believe it to be an original style for the boat. I know I can get a similar replacement in an auto version, but I haven't been able to find a marine version.

I'll check in the morning and get back to you.

That number comes back as a Prestolite model, can't find a 6204, closest I have found in a marine version is 6207 single wire. Can you add some pictures or other information?

Unfortunately that is the same place that I had come to before I posted this. I have attached a few pictures of it. I have gone through the wiring with an original wiring diagram and a multi meter; everything points to the alternator. Any help with sourcing a replacement would be greatly appreciated.
