Was looking at a 2005 22 with the 496 ho bravo x drive. standard far of options. Very clean aprox. 20 hrs. What would a fair and resonable offer on this boat be? Has trailer. Would this package offer the performance required. The 496 doesn't look like a reasonable hope up motor for major perf. gains?

The 496 HO is a great hop up motor! just swap your rods and pistons and put a whipple kit on it :) 650+ hp.

Salt or fresh water? Changes everything.

Agree. Slipped or trailered also. If it's slipped next to a yacht using shore power and a bad ground, it can cause big problem too.

Almost every anode on my lower was shot when I got it... But it was a freshwater boat.

I have an 05 22, I think 30 or so would be a great price for a clean very low hr boat, 496HO, and most of the options with a trailer if its a freshwater boat, salt does take a toll on boats BUT with only 20hrs if it was cleaned up half arse it should still be ok.....

As far as the 496HO do a search lots of discussion here about more HP with that motor, IMO I would leave the 496 alone and if ya want more HP sell it and do a 525 blue motor or have something built and keep it natural....but thats my two cents have owned my 22 since new and have thought alot about more speed, HP etc....but when I get in my boat and run the crap out of it and it keeps running with no issues, I think again:).....I like a turn key type boat.....
Performance wise with the 496..... with some seat time you should be able to run 73-74 mph GPS most of the time and if ya get a good hull and more seat time you might be able to hit 75 -76 mph in the right conditions, but again IMO 496 boats are 72-74 MPH boats most of the time.....:yes:

Also these boats do require a lot of seat time to get the maximum speed out of them safely (going on my fifth year in this boat, and am still learning.....been driving boats and boating since I have been 6 yrs. old), so if ya end up getting a 22 get some seat time with the stock power for a few years and then go crazy:kingme::kingme:

Keep us posted on how ya make out.....if you have any questions or need anything from me shoot me a PM or email be glad to help ya out in anyway I can...:shades::shades:

Have some interest in a local freshwater boat always stored in boathouse on a sling.

Sorry, the 496 is not a great hop up motor. A 502 on the other hand is. I will not getm into a discussion on this, byt been there and done this. If it were were Merc would have a racing version.

I agree with most of what is said. Especially the engine. By the time you swap the internals you will say "Ah, I could have had a 502" You can recoup some dough from selling the 496.

You seem to know engines so I won't dwell on it. You can knock on 700 hp with NA and 900hp blown without much problem. More if you can stuff in a tall deck. N/A vs Blown? Grizz here will tell you that it is in the setup. I agree.

younger... lots of talk in this thread about power. What are you looking to do with the boat, get out of the boat, etc.?

A 496 in a 22 is no slouch. More than enough power for most people.

I still owe $38,000 on my '05 and another $14,000 that I charged for the repower. The 496 HO was the biggest engine offered and it runs strong. Everything that Undertaker said is word. But......for me low to mid 70s was not quite enough to get me to the thrill zone. I now have aprox $93,000 into mine not including repairs or maintenance. So be careful. Donzi Classics are addicting:nilly:. I think the boat in question should be worth $30,000.

He has a 16 that runs 80 mph.

I should have recognized the screen name. OOF. you'll have to go 100 in a 22 to get the same feeling. I wonder if a 1075 SCI will fit back there. :bonk:

Yes I should of stated that I run a fast 16:) I know that the 496 is a mid 70's boat. Fast enough no, but the space with the family on a long run all day is limited. If my boy wants to bring a pal it becomes cramped with 4. So it is looking that the blackhawk 16 may be for sale.

last year I bought an 05 22c with trailer and 22 hrs and paid 38000 i think i paid to much but it was the colors i wanted blk/white in these times 30000 would be about right unless you really got to have that boat.:)

The 496 is a reliable motor. My friend has over 500 hrs on his '08 27' Daytona with a 496HO, and it spends 99% of its life at WOT. And he sees 80mph with 5 people with a stock motor...

is that a cat and blown motor? otherwise I highly doubt it can hit 80mph with just 1 person.
