Could be a very nice deal. Even if the block is toast, which it might not be, a rebuild cost added to $6,900 would be a deal.

Don't ask me how I know this.

If the block and heads both turned out to be garbage, you can buy a new replacement block and heads for $2,400 ish ( http://www.michiganmotorz.com/350ci-base-marine-engine-19671986-replacement-p-66.html ) and then have a mechanic transfer everything else from the existing engine.

I have had 2 small block Chevys completely rebuilt; bored 30 over, so new pistons/rings, old block, crank, rods, etc. and rebuilt heads for $1,800/each at our local NAPA machine shop.

I would say if you budgeted $2,500 you should be in good shape.
