I appreciate the past support from everyone.
I need to know if their is a way to convert a 4 wire motor to an existing two wire motor system in my 18 2+3 mechanical tilt.
Thanks,
Alan

What brand of drive do you have?
What year of production?

from the 200 to the 270 I show a 3 wire motor 3 spade tip connectors on the motor

part number 897720 12 volt

the 280 shows a different motor with a cable whip and connector( no mention of numbers of connections)

part number 839430 12 volt

I have the wiring diagram and the parts list

perhaps if you give me the part numbers from the 2 wire and 4 wire motors i can cross reference

hope that helps

Alan,
If you have the Volvo Penta tilt motor, all you need are two wires from the dash switch. The tilt motor has the power and relays so you need a positive signal wire to lift the drive and a positive to the other relay to drop the drive. Bill

Bill, thanks for the response.
I recently purchased a 1971 Donzi 2+3 with Chev v-8 and volvo penta outdrive. ser # PZNR 2715887 B.
The mechanical lift motor is missing. The wiring is two wires to the missing motor. I was trying to convert a 4 wire motor that is available to the two wire. Then, I thought if I could find out what the volvo part number was for the old motor, I would try to cross reference it. Volvo Penta couldn't tell what the part number is.
Do you have any resource for the part number for the old motor from the serial number ?
Thanks again,
Alan

the numbers i gave are out of the 250 and 289 volvo penta manuals.

usually they are 3 wire well they have to have at least three wires on the switch then 2 wires to the motor

my 250 had a jumper from the ignition switch 12 volt to the center pole, then the switch would send voltage to the motor either up or down

Matty,
The "250" and "289" volvo penta manuals you referred to, are they for a Ford engine ? Or ?
My engine is a 350 Chevrolet if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Alan

Alan,

sorry that was a typo it should be 280. these are volvo manuals and have nothing to do with the motor at all. the tilt motor is the same weather it is a ford or chevy the only thing that is different on the volvo for a ford from a chevy is the adaptor(intermediate housing usually white and round) that goes between the motor and the drive's transom assembly
