if you are looking up at the trim tab, the dorsal above the prop, that tab.... where should the rear of the tab be facing? If someone can give me a starting point it would be much appreciated...

The back edge should be moved to the side that the pull is coming from, it is there to compensate for prop torque. The best setting is neutral pull at cruising RPM's, having set right does relieve some of the stress on steering and pivots points increasing the life span. Not sure of your rotation! Rule of thumb!!!!! If your motor is pulling to the right or (hard to turn left) adjust the trim tab trailing edge to the right from its current position ... in other words ... if it pulls right adjust to right, if it pulls left adjust trailing edge to left.
