I have a 1971 Donzi 18' 2 + 3, volvo penta, v-8, serial number
PZNR 2715887 B.
Can anyone tell me if the outdrive is a 270 or 280, model number, and what years/model, etc the mechical tilt lift work will work ? Also, can a 2 wire motor for the tilt be replaced with a 4 wire, if so, how to wire ?
Thanks for your help.

270 B ratio which is 1 : 1.6

that is the volvo serial number if it is ford it will have a serial number on the bell housing that will tell you about your motor.

should be three wire on the tilt motor

Thanks. Can you break down the serial number what it represents ?
Would the 3rd wire be a ground ?

PZNR = volvo in house id
27 = model of the drive in this case a 270, 25 would be a 250 drive 28 would be a 280 drive

15887 = the production serial number

B = the outdrive gear ratio 1.6

looking at the switch in the dash the center pole is hot so that wire is carrying voltage the other two wires are up and down.

if i remember correctly on my 250 white was hot green was up black was down but depending on how the switch was wired they can be in any order

Thanks again.
When I bought the Donzi the tilt motor was missing. Is their a way to test the tilt assembly without the motor ? I am trying to determine if I need the whole assembly or just the motor.
Will other tilt assemblies work from a 250 or 280 or ? Or are the assemblies specific for the model ?

the motor is basically the tilt assembly

the motor has a worm gear in it that extends a ram with a round foot( pad) that comes down thru the transom housing hitting the reverse lock and disengaging it then pushes the drive up.

yes the 250 to 270 are pretty much the same probably the 280 as well as long as it is not a 280T which uses hydraulics to raise the motor.

search ebay usually a lift motor comes up every so often

if the motor is missing i would say the ram is missing too, the motor is really the only thing that holds it in place
