Saw this on Boat Trader. Asking $11500. Thought some one might be interested. I might be but not sure about a V drive.

Not much of a description. I guess the guy isn't really serious about selling. V-Drives ARE Neat.

That is a very cool boat. Nice find. Personally, I'd ditch the windshield....

What does "Shelby engine" really mean here???

I think they are mis-speaking on the "Shelby Engine" here. Shelby had an aftermaket businees back in the late 60's, early 70's. That look like an intake from that business. You can tell by the style of the lettering. I remember adds in magazines from back then, with that intake in the ad's.

I looked at this boat in 1998 or so before I bought mine. A "Shelby engine" in this case means someone put Shelby valve covers on a stock 351W.

What about the intake?

As I stated above Shelby aftermarket intake.

Oops... My apologies.

if it is a 351w it is not the original motor regardless of the intake

yes. Lets hear why it is so enjoyable to drive a v drive. I am curious of that myself.

with certain power they can be fast! but all in all i would say 55 mph for this one tops..the go in and out of gear like butter, steering is vary easy, they tend to ride wet and you can spin them out like a 22zx and still stay in control :)

Looks to me like that boat needs a new trailer - bad. But what do I know.
Beautiful boat, though.

Yes. I've had both a Stern Drive and a V-Drive 18' Barrelback. Both '67s with 302 Fords. Except for the relative ease of docking the stern drive, I much prefer the handling of the V-Drive boat. No torque steer (I can steer it with my pinky), and the velvet drive shifts smoother. Speed is the same.

V-drives can handle tons of power. Much more than you would want to put in an old piece. They sound cool too.
Mine doesn't turn worth a damn. I do love how she cruises, though. IMO the 30 to 35 mph river cruising is hard to beat. Not to fast, no to slow. Like an old corvette. Looks like it is hauling ass sitting still.
I'd give em 2 thumbs up.

Ditto. Neither one of my Barrelbacks could turn at speed. The couple times I tried it, I thought I was going to get "high-sided" right out of it. I can see why they rounded the keel in the redesign when they went to 3rd generation deck with the the beveled transom.

This boat has apparently been restored and is in nice shape. They got an offer on it today for $8500 from someone in South FL. I am very tempted to go pick it up if that's all it is going to go for.

IF it is solid and especially IF it has a casale split case v-drive you can't go wrong.
Other v-drives are getting harder to find parts for (but they are still out there)
The split case is almost indestructable.
