I was doing some cleaning on my engine and noticed a hose with an open end on it. This is a 2004 496HO. The hose is on the rear of the engine. Anybody know if it should be hooked up to anything?

I see an empty barb between the bolt and washer and the taped hose, also under the washer it looks like a 1/4" line disappears. Too much krap on these newer models!

Although I am not immediately familiar with what vacume circuit you are holding, I can tell you that the item is a one way vent valve often used to contol vacume emission funtions on modern engines. You should get a Mercruiser Service manual and this will explain most of the systems and how they hook up. These valves are sometimes left like this and the valve vents to atmosphere and prevents return flow in one direction.

Please be sure to always flush your motor after every salt water use. I've had three fuel coolers go bad. Your motor will just shut down. Mercury has never gotten this cured. Mine were done under warranty but that's done now.

That open end is there for the map sensor to double as a barometric sensor at start up normally the map sensor is in the manifold and this is not an issue
