I started with 92 thinking I had some high performance engine-- it worked better with the lower octane = higher, more
volatile burn. The engine has relatively low compression needing the lower octane burn rate.

Most gas docks use 89. I think fresh gas is more important than octane. When the boat will not be used for a period of weeks or months, I try to find 92 or 93 to leave in the tank as I'm told octane will decay over time.

Yes,I think for the last tank of the season you should run 93.Or leave the tank empty.

The ecm's are programmed for 87. That is all I ran in my 496 HO

I found on raylar website upgrades to the 496 and whipple does a ecm reprograming also which claims that you gain 25-30 hp.Using 93.Anyone try that?

I am guessing that the re-programing "found" the extra hp and the 93 is just preventing pinging from the new ignition advance.

What happens if you can't find 93 with this option? Do you run under a specfic RPM?

My 454 MPI runs 87, but all the fuel docks pump 89.
