Anyone know the height of a Holley 750cfm. I need to know the height from the the bottom of the carb to the base (air horn) where the flame arrestor sits.

CRAP!!! I bought a flame arrestor that is 3.75in tall by 8in Diamater. It's 7in form the top of the intake to the hatch. I have a feeling with the gasket and the curvature of the hatch the edges of the arrestor will hit.

I got in the bilge with a flashlight and a tape measure. It was that close!

I basically did the same thing. I put the tape measure next to intake and partially locked the tape at 9in then closed the hatch which depressed the tape to a reading of 7in. I believe I'm accurate to within 1/8 of an inch. I hope I'm wrong though, for the better. Haha

Can you take apart the flame arester and shorten it?

A Holley 3" drop base should give you all kinds of clearance....Ed

You can definitely get a shorter one. Look for an old Merc Supercharged arrestor or buy a custom short one. Also... don't forget about the Bolt that secures the arrestor to the carb. We found a flat screw works best. if you don't use something very flat the bolt is the first thing that will hit.

good point about the bolt, hopefully the head of the bolt is my only issue.

I don't have it yet, but the website said it cannot be taken apart.

I thought the part of the hatch that you would take the router to is hollow.

I've never seen a flame arrester that couldn't be taken apart. I've taken a cutoff wheel to every one that I have bought, and shortened the screen as much as 2". 1-3/4X 8" is plenty of air.

I'll probably end up doing that then. I haven't seen it yet so I don't know why the description said it couldn't be taken apart.
