I believe 160* is what you need.
Just like w/cars, sometimes folks have problems and remove it......
But it should be there.

2 piece housing or 1? flip the t-stat housing over and look in the upper part, wont be in the intake, its in the housing..

John I run a 180! Heat is power/efficiency I have been running it 4 years now without a care. You will run to cold with none and build a lot of moisture slime in the engine, a 160 will keep the moisture down but why not get the benefit of the 180.?

It probably has a lot to do w/the size of the HE. I tried a 180* on the Minx and it easily topped 200*. It concerned me that It didn't stabilize, just kept going up until I throttled down.
Went back to a 160* and it ran 180* at WOT.

George could have been a krappy Tstat I sit right at 180 at high RPM with no creeping up. It could also be that you includeds your manifold into the fresh cooling I did not, our heat exchangers look to be the same size. With the exhaust included I feel you need a few more tubes!

That may have been correct as mine was a full system.

Mr. Hogs engine is super charged, many of the engine builders run them cold to help to prevent detonation. Now look at Griz he run a Tstat in his blower motor and has for a long time. Run your engine cold and it will not last as long or be as efficient! Run it hot and pipe cool air to the intake have the best of both worlds.

Scroll down to the temperature gauge and read!
