Red will make a man of you!
Or teach you humility!
Or teach you patience........

Did you gel it too, or just a buff rejuvination?

Re-gelling is a sobering (and expensive) experience.

Well done!

I forgot I did a 8' 1958 Fliver too with some of that 15 gallons. Here is a picture.
The first 5 Gallons were a standard red from Fiberglass Coatings. It looked like tomato soup so I called Alan Brown ( Brownie) and he said try Candy apple red from Ferro. They had three formulas on file from different years. They sent three chips and from that I picked the Candy red color.
However, before I did that I used the rest of the first 5 Gallons to get the hull faired and filled. I figured I mighs as well use it for something.
They I used the next five covering that and the rest was sanded off.

Here are a few more pictures.

The tabs in the inside of the engine compartment are for the hydraulic hindges. I am fabricating the scoop for the hatch. Installing Moorse control and steering helm today. Well update later.
Thanks

great looking donzi babe!

Q though:
in the older ad you've attached the 1st sentance states "completly impudent"
what does this mean. Doesnt that go against what donzi is trying to promote as a true donzi sport boat?

great looking bench seat baby keep all the pictures coming!

Boy, that hurt !! It's only a virgin once !!
After the drilling I had to go and smoke a cigarette.
Does some one here on donzi.net recognize that helm??

I guess it doesn't matter how big it is. It takes alot of work. I am jugling two restos at the same time. Can't wait to get this in the water and see what it will do. I don't expect it to be a speed demon but I can hope.

What is the white hull pic, back when you were filling and sanding the 14?

We got right at or a tad over 50 mph GPS on this one with new 3.0L and Alpha...

You talking about the little spattered red one? That's a 1956 Fliver. The kind they used at Cypress Gardens to junp ramps. That's a 1965 Arena Craft there in the background. It is a restored one. I am doing another in the garage. It is a Sporster model. The one with one seat like the Baby.
What porp are you running on the 14" open? Is that yours? They are auctioning a 14 like that one at Clayton Show in a few weeks. You know the one??

I can't remember on the prop; I restored the F14, it is a friend of mines, I think it may be simply a 13x21. We hit redline at about 50.

Didn't know about the auction, an F14 or a Baby? "Restored" or a barn find?

bertsboat
07-12-2010, 09:24 PM
Here is a link to the F-14, There is a reserve on the boat. I am going to call and see what the reseve is. I will let you know what they say.

Bert, are those 120 K-planes on the 14?

bertsboat
07-13-2010, 08:32 AM
These are 110 K Planes. I found them at Marine Connection in FT Peirce Florida (actually, Cadillac found them) they were new and never installed. I had seen a set on eBay once and I kick my ass for not buying them then. Then my friend Cadillac called me and told me he saw a set at the Marine Connection and that they would look great on the Baby. I was looking for a set hard and I rode down there and made my deal. Paid $1200 with pumps and braided hoses. I will post pictures as soon as I finish the installation. They are just sitting there. I have not bedded them yet. I am waiting for powder coated stringer washers to arrive from Dana Marine along with another trim pump mounting plate to match the power hinge pump setup. Very cool planes (cute too!)

Alright Bert,

Do you have any good photos of the Ferro Candy Red wonder?

bertsboat
08-27-2010, 10:05 AM
All I have to do is wire a few things and I am waiting for the battery box to come from the powder coater then it gets fire and gas. Took longer than expected. Good thing our boating season is all year long here.

I will get it for you tomorrow. I got the golor code from Brownie, who by the way is doing fine. I talked to him on the phone this past week.

Spectacular job done. I like the gas fill too.

I imagine that if it runs over 50 it will feel like much faster, and have a great smiles per hour factor!

Nice ride Bert, job well done....

Have you thought about Lexan or similar for the small hatch? The engine looks nice and the hatch would "accent" it..? Just a thought...

Greg Guimond
05-02-2011, 08:05 PM
Flawless! I like the polycarb idea, why not do two mini hatches, one lexan and then one hinged glass with mirror back? Small hatches, light, and changes the look. I am curious on the rub rail, is that in effect the OEM style or something you selected? Also, curious on the upholstery, can you post some close ups?

Hinge it! There are some nice racing hinges around which will match your noat.

BTW, very nice job on your restoration, congrats!

Will the Baby be attending the Homecoming in October? That will blow away MOST of the Donzi employees. When I took my 1976 Boston Whaler Revenge to the Whaler sponsored event at the Hyatt most of the employees had NEVER seen one before. Here the factory is giving test rides in all their new models and the employees want to take out my boat instead...which we did.
