Donzi Registry Members,
Please offer your guidance/opinion for repowering my Donzi. I currently have a Yamaha 225 Excel and can only hit about 33 MPH. I prefer a higher top end and the 89 Yam is not confidence inspiring anyway.
I am considering and Evinrude E-Tec 300 which weighs just 528 lbs. The weight is a concern to me but I definitely want more power.
Attached is a picture and don't be too abusive if I have named her the wrong model number.
I love my Donzi. I boat on the Pamlico River in NC. It is four miles wide at my house and can turn into a mean chop in a hurry. No boat handles the water in my area better than my Donzi.
Thanks :)
Mark

my neighbor years ago had the exact package, his ran 53-54 with an Excel... that engine is really about 240 hp... I had an Excel on a 20' Oceanic OF and it ran 56-57 any time, anywhere...

i'd find out whats wrong with that engine first

I also would NOT put a 4 stroke on that transom, due to the extra 100#+ of weight difference

wheel the Excel to 5700-5800... it literally comes alive after 5200... GREAT engines

BUIZILLA,
Thanks for the reply. I know compression etc. is fine on the outboard. Thinking my next step would be to make sure engine is positioned properly in the water and make sure the prop is appropriate. Other suggestions appreciated.
You are not the first to tell me the Yam Excel is a great outboard.
Thanks
Mark

They are a great engine, you have some ponies hidden someplace. There are several Yami forums where you can get tips on what to look for.
