Guys,

Anyone know these boats? There's one for sale down the road from me. V-drive, runs but needs completed resto. 6k. Haven't seen it yet but I am a little curious. Do these boats have some value?

Thx, B

Like the others said - fairly collectable. Most of them were the Volvo Penta drives that I have seen. My best friend in college bought one after riding in my 1971 Donzi for a few years since they were a little more affordable. I have never liked single engine V drives and I have had quite a few - hard to turn around or back up and no low water ability. I once rammed my rudder into a stump at idle and it had to wedge it out by bouncing on the bow (sort of like removing an axe) - lol. Bill

Nice design, but I'd take a Donzi Hornet any day. Here's a few useful links. First is a site dedicated to the model by a Swedish enthusiast and then the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club page. Third is a link to a nice XK-22 in their classified section.

I'll take a vee drive over a I/O any day. A few years ago redid a friend's 16 Ski Sporter 1967 vee drive. Love it.

IMHO the vee drives are more collectible than the I/O versions.

I have a CC XK18 (totally different boat).

Love the look of these models and I sure do like the V-drives too. The XK-18 is also one of my absolute favourite looking little boats, so here's a photo and a link to a few more;

I looked one over a few years ago and agree, but they seem to really bring the money. Most especially the vdrive 19 (that would put it either the '69 or the '70 I believe).

didn't Alan Jackson's sell for about 40k a few months ago?

oops, sorry, for sale for 48k

Beautiful boat and in addition to that You've got both a 19' Hornet and a 27' Magnum! Must be a little tough to choose which one to go for a run in :confused:

My brother had one of these for a few years that I helped with the partial resto / refresh. A Wynne hull , it has a more substantial V than a Hornet .
His had a 350/Volvo 270 package , and personally , I really missed the power trim. The middle hole isn't enough (and a little 'wet' too) and the 3rd is too much.
My only major construction grumble is there's too much room for error for the floor to not be sealed completely/properly.. The usual carpet stuck over rough glass.

V drives are slower but far more dependable, unless you run them aground hard you will put next to no $$ in them for many years unlike most out drives. Like anything else there are trade offs!

One of my "other" boats is a 20' Correct Craft with 454 but "straight" drive as opposed to V, and it is very dependable, but it is a bear at times to park at slow speeds, remember turning depends on water movement past the rudder, and in reverse it sometimes doesn't exactly go where you think that it should. :cool!: But it is a great boat and with very few surprises at speed ( WOT is about 50 mph ). Some of the Chris Crafts and Correct Crafts hold very good value.
