I have a pair of Volvo 270T drives on my Donzi Doral. I have been told that they are trimable, but they do not have any hydraulic pumps or cylinders. The electric tilt motors do not look any different than my Volvo 270 drives on my Magnum that just tilt. Are the 270T drives trimable when your on plane ???

I haven't seen a photo of yours, but if they are 270T drives they will have "elephant" ear pieces on either side of the drive, covering the trim cylinders and would be connected to a trim pump. 270T and 280T drives are trimmable while at speed. Post #2 on this thread shows my 280T drive.

Mine dont look like that. I do have a trim gauge though. Look at this post of my Donzi Doral. http://www.donzi.net/forums/showthread.php?t=61362

I was going over this last night with Mark.

See attached PDF, page 15.

Note the 280T , no elephant ears but it specifies power trim/tilt. Also look at the actuator. Not your typical tilt actuator.

Then look at the 280PT with elephant ears, it specifies "power trim".

I would interperate "trim/tilt" as trim under way, but I just don't see how two 5/16 bolts can react that much force.

Thre was another version of trim & tilt, it was integral in the bottom of the transom shield. It was great setup if you trailered, Volvo dropped it as they could not keep seals in the ram when they were left in the water. The last one I had my mitts on was from a boat that Art from Babylon had, Moody Blue bought it but I don't think he used it. If I had a Volvo I would love to have that unit, it had a single ram that sat in a ball socket. Much cleaner looking then the later units.

MOP is correct , the unit he describes are the 270T and some early 280Ts. The elephant ears are the more common AQ280 PT. You can find schematics for both on http://www.marinepartsexpress.com/ for some reason you can't copy direct links so
choose Volvo schematics, select GAS, scroll a long way down to a long line that begins with AQ115A and contains AQ170B, select Transmissions and then Connecting components AQ Drive(11)PDF.
To get to elephant ears again choose GAS, scroll a little lower than above and select the line that starts withAQ200D and contains 280B, select Transmissions and then Connecting components AQ Drive(1)PDF.
Great site once you figure it out

When I bought my 16 my drive cover had 270T on it but had the electric motor tilt only system. I only have tilt, so did some mix covers up on me or did someone convert it to the electric tilt only systems after having the problems MOP described with the 270T

Many a cover has been lost and replaced with what ever the owner could get his hands on!
