I'm in the process of re-rigging my 1983 18 Donzi from the original Volvo 280T to a new Merc MX 6.2/Bravo package. This has been an on going project for many years. Last season, we installed the new MX 6.2 and retained the Volvo drive as funds had run out. To get the new Merc motor to fit under the hatch, it had to be modified to clear the exhaust risers.
I'd like to hear from those who have done this swap from Volvo to Merc Bravo and what the ideal X- Dimention should be without any (more) modifications to the hatch. Ideally, when this package is fully installed, I would like to buy a new hatch from Donzi as mine has been hacked and cut too many times over the years. We would like the boat to appear as stock as possible.
Also, does anyone know the input shaft to prop shaft dimentions of the Volvo 280 ? I'm curious as the stock X-Dimention seems to be rather high considering how high the stock MX 6.2 sits in the boat.
Thanks in advance,
Kurt
