WOW!!!!???? Remember when we used to go to the Hyatt in Sarasota? I think it was less. Maybe its been renovated....

Hi Russ,
Our regular Boat Show/Antique Show rate is $199/night for standard
rooms. I am currently sold out of King and Queen rooms and have just two
rooms with 2 double beds available at that rate. The only other rooms I have
available are Parlors which are $224/night. We are nearly sold out, and will
not be reducing rates at the last minute. All rates are plus 13% tax. If
you're interested, give us a call to reserve. Thanks so much!

Russ, that dilapodated antique is hardly the only place to stay. There's a very nice Holiday Inn Express just down the road. Try to find the last two or three years threads...I had a comprehensive list of moderately priced places to stay.

we can stay over in leesburg, not far, for under $50 per night... days inn leesburg. AAA rate is under 50 with taxes.

Of course where you stay is your decision, but from the Orlando airport, it's far easier to take the East West toll rd (Beachline) to the Florida Turnpike north, to the Leesburg exit on US Hwy 27 to Leesburg than to negotiate north through Orlando to Apopka.
It looks easy on a map, but reality is somewhat different.

I'll second that... take the beeline (528) west and it is only a couple exits to the turnpike from the airport. And even though 528 runs east/west there is another road called the east west expressway... don't take that.

from the turnpike there is a little toll road that will get you to apopka.

Look to buy a sunpass if you can. they have a new one that is $5 and includes $5 worth of tolls on it so it is basically free. The tolls are cheaper with sunpass and it is a million times easier because there are a bunch of tolls around orlando.

And of course we'll have extra room in our boat if you want to ride.

I know :) It should be called the beachline because that is where it goes. :bonk:

I have taken that road more times than I care to count. used to take my dad to the airport every week on it since the day I could drive. then all those trips to and from Tallahassee... I think I paid for a good portion of that road.

Ken and I had the pleasure of being Georges guests for the Dora run a couple years back, we had a great time with great people and got to see some really neat boats. Running the lakes and river, seeing alligators and a ton of wildlife along the way added to the treat. Also this year the gods blessed the area with a rain and filled the lakes up.

I stopped by Wooten Park to see how things were going.
There's lots of construction going on. Don't know if they'll finish everything.
They had put in 30-40 new concrete floating slips (or so it looked from a distance)...these are to the right of the ramp.
They may have taken the hump out of the top of the ramp, but I couldn't get close enough to verify.
Here's a few pictures from my phone.....
I don't have any idea what these new buildings are for.

All,

It appears there is not much interest in a Friday run. So, I have an alternative idea for Saturday. Here is the plan.

Lunch run is Saturday, the 27th. I plan on launching from the Mt. Dora boat ramp in the 10-10:30 range.
Lunch will be at the Crazy Gator in Eustis around noon. We might as well just gather at docks in Mt. Dora for an 11:00 departure, as I haven't heard of anyone staying at the Lakeside this year.

So, anyone in need of a ride, meet at the docks in Mt. Dora. Or just meet us at the docks in Eustis.

In other years, some have met up with us on the water as we have exited the Dora Canal. The Eustis docks and the Crazy Gator are northeast of there (050') on the same lake.

Here is the option I was thinking about. I plan on taking a cruise after lunch with the following intentions:
Leave the Eustis docks, head west (270') across the lake and into Haines Creek. Exit the creek on the west end and head north (000') up the Oklawaha River. Take a nice cruise north until we get to the big lock, forgot the name. There is a picnic area there and rest facilities. That is the turnaround point. Then head back to Mt Dora. This should take a few hours, r/t.
This would also be weather permitting. No obligation to go, just my plan for a nice cruise.

Let me know what you think.

Bob

I have to call the Crazy Gator in the next day or so to reserve the back room.
Please try to give me a head count for attendance for lunch.

Ran great when after I blew the green stuff out! (of course I did not harm the environment)
Gassed up in Leesburg and the cashier asked if I was going fishing... I can't tell you how many times I have been asked that. You should have been there Jim! People are funny. Last year at Eufala - while someone was pulling
their Donzi out with something the size of a semi...I had two :shocking: guys asking if we were having a race with all "those" boats!

Tom, (busy week in Augusta)
Good website with lots of great pictures of old raceboats. Looks like more fun than the antique show thats no go. I have enjoyed the boat show weekend because the weather in Fl. is warmer than Ga. and its my first time out for the year. We saw many eager to leave folks on Sunday because they had been there both weekends.
I took lots of moving pics buy many turned out poorly. Need more one hand practice. Here are a few

These Sandhill cranes were aross from my boat at Jim Sr's house. Notice the young in the middle. These birds have 5-6' wingspans, stay together, migrate together and live up to 25 years in the wild. At 11 lbs, can stay in the air for hours riding the thermals to stay aloft for hours with little effort. The male does all the talking- he makes two calls for every one the female makes. Look at the little one in the middle.
Anyway... The other pic is Sr gunning for gophers!

The Minx came with built in cupholders- who wouldn't want that?
Sleeker than the Hornet but not as much so as the classic but it did fill the gap- 16-18 then the 22 in the classics. Never fully understood the only engine selection though. I thought one of the brochures even referred to it as a classic somewhere but who cares. Unique boat for sure.
