Cool boat. I was fortunate enough to enjoy one of these GT's for a little while several months ago. Very impressed with the handling and how important I felt driving it. I'm not in the market, but I'm sure someone around here is. Good luck with the sale!

The exchange rate for today is 1.04496 Canadian dollars for every American Dollar. $14354.62 American is 15000.00 Canadian for today 2-18-10

Take the 15000 Canadian and divide by the exchange rate of 1.04496

15000/1.04496 = $14354.62

is that original white gel bottom or white bottom paint?

JOHN SCIBERRAS
02-18-2010, 04:23 PM
The bottom does not have any antifouling paint on it and appears to be original gel coat. The hull was refinished some time ago by the previous owner and has stood up very well. People can not believe how old the boat is. They think it is relatively new due to its appearance..

When you say power trim is that the piston and ball unit the is center bottom of the transom shield?

John:

Nice original boat.

There's a board member on the site with your boat's "twin" - they were likely both sold out of the same distributor. His boat was on Lake Simcoe for a long time and auctioned out of there. I think it's on G-Bay now. Was your boat sold by someone named Luxton a few years ago?

You are right on the money. I purchase the boat from the Luxtons. The original owner on the bill of sale from donzi marine was M. C. Henry. The bill of sale was signed by J. Chishlom ,Donzi marine Inc. 2940 Northeast 188th St North Miami Beach Florida. It was deliverd to his Florida home and imported by him into Canada. According to Chisoms nephew I am led to believe Henry was a doctor with a cottage in Muskoka where it was boathouse kept and not used very much. The Luxtons could probably confiirm this. I owned a classic 18 that was custom built for Chisoms nephew kown as the " orangepeel".

Regarding the power trim question, the outdrive serial number indicates it is the original . I have been told by a freind who has the identical boat that the transome plate has been changed to a more modern 290 plate with full hydraulic trim. the trim pump is located inside the boat. This conversion was professionally done and would go unnoticed unless you were very familiar with volvo drive systems. Ihope this answers your question, John.

John:

Best of luck with your sale.

I may have seen your old 18 parked on Lake Rosseau - the name sounds familiar - from a distance it looked like a 16' though. Could be a different boat.

Yes, that is a new rotocast platic tank. The original tank is still in place and not leaking but has some type of contamination in it propably due to fuel break down when the previous owner had it. When I first got the boat it would start but as soon as you tried to pick up speed it would stall. Fortunately I have an excellent mobile marine mechanic who looks after my boats. He quickly diagnosed the problem as contamination in the original fuel tank. The tank on a GT-21 are very hard to get at either remove the deck or cut a hole in the floor. Neither looked good to me and as the original tank was in good condition I decided to install a new tank in the engine compartment so access would be easy in the future. I have owned many boats with fuel tanks factory installed in the engine compartment and consider it to be far safer than a tank under the floor with poor accesability. I would be glad to hear any comments the techs on this site have on my point of view. John sciberras.

I'm no mechanic but I can tell you that you were correct about the tank under the floor. It does not come out easy! Many offshore boats have saddle tanks so I assume its works fine and the access would be nice. Plus on this boat the engine room is so big that there was plenty of room. Well done. Good luck with the sale.

John,
You should have told them that you actually haul "MoonShine" in them tanks, buy the boat and get them filled to capacity on the house. :drinkbeer::thumbsup:

lol... well, as every GT21 owner knows about the problems with 40 years old gas tanks and how difficult it is to replace them we allways keep our eyes open for alternatives...

Axel, Thanks for your comments. I do not understand it either. I have had two offers of 6000.00. When I refused to take them the people making the offers replyed with insulting e-mails saying the boat with the Volvo 280 outdrive was not worth anything as parts were unavailable? I can only assume the economy in the U.S. and Canada is so bad our old classics are a hard sell. I am considering taking the boat off the market for the forseeable future as people with boats like ours need to preserve the Donzi heritage for as long as we can. Thanks, John.

John,
You're always going to attract those insulting idiot types from the internet and The Forsale Want Ad Digest weekly papers, but they must be confusing your Volvo with OMC sterndrives or just need something to zero in on to knock the price.
I remember when I had a 66' Pontiac GTO forsale many years ago and the guy walked around the car pushed down on my rear bumper and then told me that my rear ballJoints were bad, I said to him Geez' you must be correct since I don't have any balljoints back there supporting that 12-bolt Chevelle posi rear end with 4:56 gears and that the car is now not forsale to him and he should leave right now and don't ever come back!
And the next time you try to nickle the price down on someone he should first get his facts straight and to know WTF he's talking about, BallJoints are located up front not in back jack!!
You'll do better to advertise in the pay ads that sell vintage collector boats and other media like that...

Oldredalert, I have not visited the site for a while. The boat was sold this year at a bargain price. It should have brought a better price consider it was a turnkey boat but I had not used it for two years and the second owner of the boat contacted me and wanted to buy it back for his daughter. It is going back to the Muskoka Lakes where it will be appreciated. Some times you just have to let things go and get on with other prioritys. I wil miss it, John.
