The video wouldn't load when I tried to watch it.

I'm curious. The attached picture is said to be dated April 13, 1968. The boat is said to be a Sweet 16 Donzi (Glastron guys know Glastrons, not so much Donzis, as this would have been a Ski-Sporter if it was a 16), but. . .

It has side by side front bucket seats
It appears to be a barrel back boat
It has 4 clam shell vents
The engine hatch has a latch in each front corner

Does anyone know what this Donzi really was?

Bill, that's a very famous picture, I seem to remember that it's an 18 w/a 427 Ford.
But my memory has seen bettger days.

George,

That would make more sense. Yikes! How fast was a 20' Glastron with a 409, that an 18' Donzi with a 427 couldn't keep up with it?

A "store bought" I/O boat from the mid 1960s that ran in the neighborhood of 60 mph would have been screaming fast!

I know it is a shallower V, inland lake boat, which would make it faster than a deep-V like the Donzi. You just don't usually read about Donzis from that time period not being able to keep up with some other boat. Usually it was the other way around.

The Donzi was a V-drive I believe.

there were a few donzi is the secret service detail for LBJ.

the red and white one was a 400 hp HM 427 side oiler vdrive barrelback.
there were 16s assigned as well there are pics of a white and blue one, i think the video also shows a white and green 16 too.

I am sure if you look there a pic of the white and blue 16 , look at the way the driver is crammed in behind the wheel, his knees are as tall as the steering wheel, he must have been a monster. this subject comes up about every 3 months or so.

LBJ could have been riding in a dingy with a trolling motor and the SS guys could have had a 38ZR with trips

THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THEY WOULD PASS HIM. ;)

it's good to be the president

What a cool job. Play follow-the-leader in a Donzi, all the while ready to pull the magnum if something sketchy happens.
