Well finally the start of the Vancouver Olympics, looking forward to it. I have family and numerous friends working various venues, they all say the run-up to today has been great and the events should be even better. Shame about the lack of "real" snow but apparently they have it under control with the snow machines........do YOU believe?:canada:

I hear Arnie came up to carry the torch for a bit. Not sure what a former steroid user from California has to do with the Olympics in BC, but whatever...

Rumor is Gretzky will light the cauldron?

WOW! A Georgian luge athlete died in a training run, sad way to start the games.......

Damn, the video of that crash was brutal to watch. The Georgian athlete left the luge track and was stopped very suddenly by a rectangular steel pillar looking to be about 2' x 3'. There were many of these pillars, not very far apart, right along the edge of the track. Between the pillars looked to be grated benches, also steel.

The course was already known for being fast, with speeds up to 95 mph, and quite a few crashes occurred during training runs. I bet I am not the only one wondering why these posts are so close to the track. It will be interesting to see how coverage of this event develops.

Prayers to the family, friends, and teammates of the athlete.

He may have been the best point guard. Check his stats some day. :)

Switzerland almost beat Canada in hockey last night! What a great game. Did Canada come into this one with fat heads after dismantling Norway???

I think you are right Carl, Canada did not look strong during any point of the game.......the two goalies are who kept each team in the game IMO....on to the next game and hope for a little better performance...

USA vs. Canada? Canada should win but who knows. I think that is on about mid-night here in the east. I'll read about it in the morning! Go USA!!:salute:

Yup, although if Canada plays like they did in their last game, the ladies French team would beat them...........:nilly::wink:

The game is on at 4:30pm here so that should be a 7:30pm start for you? I realize you are getting older, with your 56th just passing, but you should be able to stay up that late...:wink::popcorn:

What a game!

Shouldn't matter what side of the border you reside...that was just a great hockey game. Canada outshot the sh*t out of the USA but Ryan Miller (E. Lansing native and MSU Spartan, baby!) totally kept us in it.

The last 3 minutes were unbelievable.
The USA hasn't beaten Canada in the Olympics since 1960!

Awesome.

I'm from Florida where the land is flat, and the lakes don't freeze. We played baseball alll year long.

I have it on tivo...My wife thought if she would tell me that USA won I wouldn't watch it. Usually I couldn't, but Olympic Hockey is so great to watch even if your team loses. Can't wait to watch it tomorrow.

But I still want USA to win of course.
