I suppose everyone has seen the news videos of the pirates off the Horn of Africa in their 30'+/- open boats w/pretty small outboard powered, and hundreds of miles off shore.
I undersand they operate from larger ships, but they still are pretty gutsy doing what they do in the prevailing conditions.
I also suppose they have nothing to lose and the possible payoff is pretty impressive.
Any thoughts on the seamanship of the pirates?
How about the seakeeping abilities of these little boats?

I think the Haitians are the best sailors. Anyone that can find S.Fl. without a compass has to be the best.

Hell, that's easy. Just follow the smell of Cuban cigars!:biggrin:

I wonder how good their seamanship would be with a few 50 caliber rounds through the hull.

I'm always surprised that doesn't happen more often......

We've had so many discussions here about running Donzis in rotten conditions.
These Africans are in the middle of nowhere in a 30' open boat powered by a single low powered outboard and take on 800'-1,000' ships w/their huge wakes and everything else that goes w/it.........
So often they're successful.
You don't often hear of many of them being swamped or anything.
