I need to replace my manifolds, does anyone offer reasonably priced manifolds that will take the place of my OEM manifolds but will increase performance?

Interesting question.

To provide the best answer, additional information would be helpful.

What engine?

Are you replacing your current exhaust because it is shot, or because you are looking for increased performance, or a better looking engine?

What is the current horsepower of your engine?

Have you already done other performance enhancing modifications?

What do you consider "reasonable" as a price for performance exhaust?

Depending on the answers to these questions, there might be other modifications that would give you a greater increase in performance. You might be able to just replace your existing manifolds with some "stock" style, do some other performance mods, for the same money as a set of performance exhaust.

The best priced aftermarket exhaust is Revolution Marine Exhaust. I used them on my 502 untill I aquired the GIL Dry Offshores. They are available for SBC and BBC. They have a "Dam" built into the riser to prevent reversion, they work. I still have mine, I am keeping them for a future project. Click on the top link in my signature and you can see and hear them on my "Old" engine. It now has even more cam and is much louder with the "Dry pipes".

GLM aluminum is the same concept as the revolution. The GLM's are a bit cheaper though. Can be had for 700-ish. I think the Rev's are about 1000.

The aluminum is less than half the weight of cast iron. the individual runners help some in the performance area.

I'm thinking about the GLM's on my sbc. Dont count on much more performance, but they weigh less than half of the iron.
Engineered in the states, but made in China
Cheapest I found them here http://www.amarket.com/manifoldk.htm

that is a great price. The best I found so far was 700-ish. That place has them for 559!

I guess the extra info would help.

I got a bank repo cheap and put 20 hours on it. Lost oil pressure and found water in the oil. Both blocks were cracked from not being winterized. I am replacing them with 420 HP 454's from us engines http://www.usengine.us/ Has anyone herd/delt with them?

One exhaust manifold is cracked also, thats why I am replacing them. I don't intend to do much else to the engines other than Intake and possibly MSD ignition.

I was told that the Merc 4" design actually is like a 3" the way the elbow connects to the exhaust. is this true?

Should I save the money and replace the one cracked manifold with a factory one?

For starters their site is impressive the warranty sounds good, what are the terms of the 7 year warranty. IMO for the 420hp I would make sure I got manifolds that knew positively would not revert! Can you get the cam spec and post it, a few not me guys up here really know their Chit!

The first year is parts and labor, then for 6 years its parts only. I will work on the cam specs.

Thanks

The GLM's are priced lower than the Revolutions, but they have internal water passages from the manifold to the riser. Revolutions have a separate hose from the manifold to the riser that minimizes the possibility of internal water leaks betweeen manifold and riser into the engine. Risky. When I purchased my Donzi, it had a 454HO with EMI exhaust, with internal water passages. The gasket blew and I got water in the engine, terminal.

The Glm stuff is not bad, but basically just a reproduction of the OEM factory kit with a tiny bit more flow. It just is made of aluminum & weighs less and has a little more flow. Those are the benefits of it. It still wont be able to perform as well as an EMI, Stainless Marine or a Header system.

We sell & install many different major brands of exhaust systems, including the ones above & more. If you are still looking feel free to give me a call.. :)
