ive been rebuilding my 67 sportsman and need help with the transom mounted tillers ?? they are just like the 28 cary tillers . i have never serviced them ??? what seals them ?? are they like regular stuffing boxes ???

what sealing area are you concerned with?

yea i had one in the keys . but i never worked on the tillers . have you ever took them off or apart ??

dropped the rudders from the boxes

never took the boxes off the transom though

didn't need to

They are probably just like a stuffing box only you can keep them tighter so you get zero drippage since they only move a few degrees at a time. do they have a overly large nut where packing could fit inside?

will do . do you think i should chang over to the dripless seals on the drive shafts while i got it out . it going to sit in the water should i spend the money ??are they worth the cost

if I would have kept mine, I would have switched the logs to dripless... I was forever, as in every trip, adjusting the gland nuts.. :garfield:

Dripless is the only way to fly. Once you've had 'em, you'll never go back.

Sorta like heated seats in your car (or heated grips on your bike) - you don't realize what you're missing until you have them, then you wonder how you lived without 'em.
