I am still looking for a good Donzi but keep finding cracks in the cockpit and under the motor mounts in the bottom or in the transom. I have been looking at 1996-1998's and keep finding cracks is there a better year range to look at or is it just the why they are. Hope you can help me understand these boats.

For years Donzi 22C's have been underbuilt in certain areas. The newer boats are better than the older hulls but not by much.
The AMR ownership (starting in '94) built better hulls than OMC, or Staples, but again, not by much.
I'm not saying the're unsafe because they're not, but when you want a crack free boat they have to be reinforced in the area of the cracking.

Kinda like '58 Buick sheet metal around the front door vent window......

George I disagree and am surprised you don't disagree with yourself!

After all the huge posts on late model bottom cracking due to the stringers being moved does not make them better, that was a mistake on the part of Donzi! If Poodle were he would also give you the dickens for saying the OMC boats were not good that is totally wrong both he and I owned OMC boats there is and was nothing wrong with them, he and I would put them up against any other Donzi I bet a few more will chime in on that point. The much newer with the modified bottom and older non spread stringer boats are the better bet, boats like yours mine and a few others which we have put some beef into are probably the picks of the litter.

I know this draw the wrath of some of the late model owners, but I bet many have not been fixed and should be!

Phil, the cracks in the cockpit floor has nothing to do w/the stringer spacing since the later boats have the same stringer spacing under the cockpit as the older boats.
They simply don't hasve enough beef in the bottom. Period!
The cracks around the cockpit coaming....DITTO!
Cracks in the stringer bases....DITTO!

OMC boats?
I personally don't have enough experience w/them to pass judgement.
But they were only built for about five years and they're not in the time frame of what she was asking.
