If you have no exterior oil leak you are going to have to get into the pump. Get the book out and go slow, if you have filled the unit recently you may have gotten a piece of junk into it. I have seen a sliver of plastic from an oil can bugger up the works. You may find a bad spring etc but they make a very good pump so it should be something minimal.

Have you tried running Viagra in it? :D

Old Volvos use a worm gear and threaded rod. There's a kind of clutch pack in there that's worn out. I've heard that it's tough to rebuild and that parts aren't easy to come by.

On mine, it would stay up until you pushed on it -- or until the trailer hit a bump. Then it would move down (ask my how I know about rewelding a skeg). I bought one of those spring-steel holders that keeps the drive up when trailering. Found it at a boat wrecking yard for a couple of bucks.

if viagra doesn't work, talk dirty to it :p :D
Avickers is right , mine does the same, a good ole tie down/up strap works !

Sufer,
I think you need that people in some professions would call a fluffer.

I am obviously not in that profession, just what is a fluffer? I need details

Is it a 280 (screw drive lift) or 280T (with hydraulic power trim)?

Even the 280T uses a screw for lifting the foot. The ram travel on the trim is very limited.

It's a 280T, the first thing I thought was to check the lines, but no leaks. I couldn't find fluffer in the dictionary.

Gee, I didn't know that. I own two 280Ts and neither has a screw lift, and both will tilt the units with the hydraulic rams until the drive cap touches the rubber stop. Maybe you're thinking about the 270T of which I've never seen.
