Silverback has the fastest ZX:nilly::nilly: Where did he go anyway?

I would imagine that Mr X has the fastest 22.

It would be neat to know who owns the fastest 18 and what it runs. I am sure that Geo's boat will be the fastest all time classic. And yes, I have heard rumors that it still exists in a detuned state. I would rather hear about an actual 18 that someone runs and is not afraid to discuss (no myths or sandbagging). Kind of like the Heisman. It is cool to know who has done it but this year only one player counts. The one that is playing.

I know she's not the fastest 16, but I'll weigh in...59 MPS on GPS. I'm thinking she's good for 60 to 62 MPH in ideal conditions with the drive in the top pin and my 14x26 Ultra digging in.

Ed Donnely had a 16 that would easily top 100 MPH.
GEOO had an 18 that would top 125 MPH.

Then you slow down to 105 or so for 22's! LOL

Right now, I would say Ted (MR.X) is the big dog for any classic.

In his day, Geoo would more than give him a run for the money.

It would appear we need 2 sets of winners.

One would be the uncontested, all time fastest, like Ed's 16, and GEOO's 18.

The other would be current board member's rides.

Recently there was the 85+ mph 16 that was for sale in Florida (pictured). I don't think anyone knows how fast it went, and it would seem faster than anyone currently has on the board, but unless the current owner signs up, and chimes in, it shouldn't count. The claims can't be verified. Then, if next spring Parnell's 16 runs 80+, I would say he would hold the award for the fastest 16.

It might be that the fastest 22 title isn't claimed, as there seems to be more sandbagging going on with 22s.

Who do we think has the fastest 18?

the answer is horse power. Geeo's boat had almost 1,000 HP and an Arnie drive Ed's boat was highly modified in the hull area with a pad to boot.and also had big power. The fasted 22 I have seen was 104, with a alpha and 850 hp, verified on the dyno. The owner said he would never do it again. Trust me
Ted will blow that away. Remember you cam push a brick over 100 mph with enough power. BTW I know of a 24 foot Python that pushes 115 with a 383 and a blower with a shorty

The X-18 is a lot more aerodynamic than other classics, and at that speed, it's a LOT more important.
I think to go 125 in a 22 it would take over 1000 HP AND a Tonneou of some sort to reduce the size of the open cockpit.

I like the fact that the stats are current as in last year for example. Sometimes when reading the Registry, it becomes very confusing as to what is current and what might have been 20 years ago.

Set it up as a bracket...........for Classics

16's that broke 70 on GPS in 2009?
18's that broke 75 on GPS in 2009?
22's that broke 80 on GPS in 2009?

Honor system but only GPS. All that said, it goes without saying that the mythical GEOO had the fastest all time Donzi Classic regardless of decade.

Coolest is also good. What all are you doing Wayne?

my 16 is undergoing a complete transformation from the original wrap-around Ski Sporter seating to a bench seat;

The bench seat is going to be back by the transom, engine moving foward, driving the drive through a jackshaft. 1+1 configuration on the benchseat with a center console that will house the controls / etc.

I've got a thread somewhere here, one with the original idea and some sketches, the second is my progress thread

Should be a blast when done, but in my case, form is first, functionality (read speed) comes later as with the drastic change in weight / etc., it's going to take a while, and quite a bit of $$ to dial in. So, I'm looking to get it floating and moving first, then the rest will come with time.

I am always concerned about the outdrive and yes 6 grand is about the max from one of these.
I take a real light touch when I use the Donzi, I never hammer it I never do hole shots I keep off the gas in corrners I baby the hell out of the drive. It is my week link. I pull it apart every year to look at all internal parts. In two years of running this drive all is well.

OK, I haven't seen a lot of people simply putting numbers up for the 22s so I'll throw mine out until somebody cares to smack me down (and I know there are plenty here who can)

2001 22C, stock 502 Mag, procharger, SM exhaust. 82 MPH GPS and a little change. There was more to be had with the right prop and tuning.

Now however it tops out at about .1 mph as I push it around the garage waiting for things to settle down so I can put the motor back together. :frown:

71.8 on GPS with 2 people, 25 gallons of fuel, a 20 year old big block ford, and a dying OMC King Cobra....I'm happy. Fast, not really, but I'm happy.

71.8 is fast on the water, it sure was in our 28ZX, things happen quick at 70MPH.

Fast enough for me. I can still make most boats look silly.

If you can set and hold at 70 for any distance, that is impressive

Give it a couple weeks... Parnell will be throwing his new monster in, If he let's me know when, I will bring the HD video camera along and we can tape the first outing.

I'm guessing it will be the fastest GT-21, bar none. :crossfing:

I don't like to do it for too long, the boat is 20+ years old, and made by OMC :bonk:
