The actuator operates electrically and, with a dead battery, I can not open the hatch to charge the battery. Is there a way to bypass the actuator to open the hatch other than by applying force, and will that damage the actuator. Or, can I get to the battery other than by opening the hatch.

how about one of those trickle chargers that charges the battery through a cigarette lighter outlet?

My 28 has terminals in the gunwale, hidden pretty well, next to the drivers seat. They have rubber caps on them. I'm not sure if yours has it or not, it could be a later addition, but it might be worth looking.

Another possibility is to just lift the sunpad/hatch up. It's heavy, but you should be able to lift it up. Our old Blackwidow and our '02 ZX both would lift. The actuator will just drop forward or backward when dislodged from the bracket on the underside of the hatch/sunpad. good luck!

I like this plan.
