Baseline: 1984 Donzi Hornet III
Trs, with 489 cid engine (454 with stroker cranke, bored .030)
Oval port heads with stock GLM exhaust, 750 edelbrock carb, Mild cam
Best results: 60 mph gps

Not good enough!!!!

Added: Stainless Marine Aluminum exhaust, ProComp Aluminum heads (oval port, 300 cc intake, 2.25 intake, 1.88 exh), Comp cams Xtreme Marine 278H Hydraulic flat tappet camshaft, Marine Demon 850 cfm carb.
First test run: 70 mph gps

The difference between 60 and 70 is HUGE. Was the effort and the money worth 10 mph? YES!!

Nice!

Is that the Procomp intake manifold on there also? Which intake/heads did you start with?

Intake did not change: Edelbrock air gap oval
First heads were stock oval port heads off 330hp 454, iron.

Thanks Mr fixxall. Gave me solid info. I'm really happy with the performance now. The boat is really fun!!!!

Now it's really a "FLYING tomato".

10MPH with those changes is fabulous. I am guessing the heads and cam made the biggest difference, but it all added up to a 17% increase in top speed - outrageous - Bill

That's a tremendous increase with those mods. I suspect that it would take well over a 100 hp increase to gain an additional 10 mph over the original 60. Just my .02 cents.

usually you don't even get that, It seems he applied his efforts in the right places. What kind of drive & Prop are on this boat? (I may have missed it) I believe theres more to be had...

Wow, that's impressive. What would it take to make my boat go 70? It does 60 now with the ole 330 horse in it and big oval port heads. Am I better off looking for a newer 454 with forged internals?

welllllll, You could swap out the trs for a Bravo and you'd be over 70 pretty easy. I know a guy who had a 383 with an alpha in a 22' and it ran 65 mph all day ( I mean it, he held it wfo everywhere) but a Bravo and a big block will do 70's without huffing very hard. Trs needs a bit more love.

F.T that was the best results for the parts used. It is all in the combination, and yours worked out well. Chalk one up for a TRS drive
