I had my new to me, HH installed today. I am planning on adding two layers of composite deck material (total 1.950 x 5.50) for the rear step, screwed to the existing bunks. My question is, should I carpet it? I believe the new deck material is softer than the fiberglass and since the boat won't be sliding fore or aft on it, is it worth the effort?

Thanks in advance

I carpeted my steps. It was not a big deal. It took an 1.5 hours or so.

I dunno about the composite material.

I would carpet the new bunk area.
You can never have enough padding in my opinion !
Cost & time to install mean very little here!
Enjoy your new Hydro Hoist!
I wish I had one~
But I rent my boatslip with a 25' X 8' floating dock. My boats sadly spend 5 months IN the water!

Quick question about the steps, how do you get the boat to settle into the steps on the bunks so you do actually get full support?

With mine the 2X8's just happened to be the right size. It has full support. It actually cradles better than a typical v hull.
