The idea is to put the prop back farther thus increase the leveraging arm and put the prop closer to the surface away from the hull's water diplacement for less drag?

Todd, not real world in a 22, but in an 18. I LOVE the 8" I have ( on the back of my boat ;) )

I will not go back to stock. I have a Stellings sitting here for the other boat that is a "work in progress" so I can't comment on that.

An 18 with 12" and up 3" either by Extension Box design or Bravo shortie would be a dream I think and we'll find out soon hopefully.

I would prefer the stock X-dim and go the shortie route if it were me and play with spacers to get it right.

So, long story short, and not theory in the 18, it is WAAAAYYYY better at 2 3/4" X-dim up and an 8" setback. No question. And picked up almost 6 mph GPS simply by adding it. ( the 8" ) Three inches on the 18 would be PERFECT back 12" and give good bow lift and trim IMO.

"Funny" low speed wake I have before plane tho...

Do it RT! I've been wanting to try one REAL bad for a long time now. Just didn't want to spend the $ and find out it didn't work. I've got myself about 70% convinced to buy one for next spring.
I know our boats are different, but still, it's much easier to spend your money than mine.

Mr X, with the ITS, what was your prop shaft height compared to a stocker?

The X-factor has a setback as well, so I'm assuming your hoping the setback will work better at a different prop shaft height?

Keep bringing it. Guess I shouldn't complain about having run through ten props so far with my set-up, given Ted's experience... Ten more and I might have it figured out.
BTW, my curiosity is coming out of a sidebar conversation I had today with a friend. They are looking at it, I think they should give it a try, so I thought I would bring it up here for discussion as I don't think I have seen much here on this topic. Me? I think I will get what I have dialed in first, which is far from being done... but I am watching...

Your and our "friend" as u put it should talk to Ted..maybe he will sell him his ITS sys that is coming off...:pimp:

but you are right A22, THAT friend needs to talk to Ted about the ITS.
As for the friend I am talking about, he is looking at a Stellings box.
As Yeller says, I am always happy to assist others spend money in the quest for speed and handling, as I have become personally very good at doing thanks to the help of many here... For now, my checkbook needs a slight recovery period.

yes yes..I remember the same conversation with him now...is there an advantage of one over the other?

Whatever he does... it will be over the top insane...guaranteed:cool:

I've ridden in Lenny's boat and it is everything he says. Runs nice and flat, planes fast, was very responsive and seemed to almost be a match for Jeremy's 18 Scorpion. Plus, I think Lenny only has 280 hp. Everything I saw and experinced says go for it.

John, your almost their, i would say get a -2 for yours and theirs your shorty:)

What vertical change does the ITS introduce? Up how many inches is the prop shaft vs stock?

Pismo

X, do you think the problems you had with your ITS setup were do more to the raised X or the setback?

I think it cost so much his boat rejected it, Kinda like an artificial heart.

If you put an extension box on your boat do you need or would anyone advise to reinforce the transom since you are taking the weight of the drive and and extending it further back. Do you think over time it can put too much stress on the transom?

thehow33
10-30-2009, 12:17 PM
Yes, that is what I did.....after seing the transoms on the bigger boats.

whats the best way to reinforce the transom? Thicker transom, metal plates?

The ITS worked OK but, very sensative to just the right prop.
I tried 15 different props to get it even close to being dialed in
The steering is super sensative......very easy to over correct and get
in trouble quick.
There are other trade offs as well............thats why mine is comming off.
I am installing the X-factor next week.

I've never seen that X-factor setup before. Who makes it?

my experience with them,,they need to stay on a longer boat with twins or the ITS needs to be redesigned for smaller boats with longer steering cylinders..

Their real touchy! :)

I wonder how hard it would be to hang an older Volvo on that setup.

I had thought about putting an extention on the bh 16 to raise the x. Was wondering what the conclution would be? Would the added out behind the boat affect the handling, I know that the up would help. I am up about 1" on the stock x know. Was thinking 2" up. Any ideas!!!!!!!!!!

i say go for it! it would definitely make the boat feel bigger by moving the drive back..what set back are you thinking?

I would like to try and keep the drive as close to the boat as possible not to loose to much of the x. With the water comming off the transom comming back to the surface, the more distance back the high it is. I would like if possible 10" back and 3" up. If that is possible. Have not done any major investigating to see what is available. The added plus would be the hyd. steering. I think this would put me it the 90 mph bracket or very close.

My wife and I had a discussion about Loretta's arm movements while you were passing me at 75 or so.

My thought on that was that she needs to restrain her arms to her life jacket with some sort of teather as she is slowing your boat down with her ams in the air. For some odd reason, Terri disagreed. There was no discussion about Hunter.

Must be the Mars/Venus thing.
