Boat was manufactured with a significant hook in bottom at transom. Has anyone removed the hook in their hull, and how did it affect handling and top speed?

where is the hook out at the chine or is it inboard of the outer strake, if it is the intentional hook in the hull there is no real performance gain from removing it. if it is not the intentional hook and it is closer to the keel it can cause all sorts of quirks

the intentional hook out by the chine it was put there to help the boat plane quicker and when on plane it is for the most part above the surface of the water

The 16 outboard that I'm familiar with (drove around for a month or so) has a 200 hp Yamaha. It pops out of the water real freakin quick and finally ran 60 like a dream once we got the motor tweaked right.

So, the moral of the story is...you might not have too big of a problem here. But do as you wish...good luck.

big griz removed the hook and then put it back i think cause the boat rode terrible without it.

some older boats developed a hook closer to the keel from sitting on the trailer or lift for years without the bunks properly supporting the transom itself.
the bunks don't end at the end of the boat or go past the transom .

so again depending on where the hook is and if it is not equal on the same side it can cause quirks in handling but if the bottom is fairly true and it is just the hook that the factory put in it leave it alone.

Thanks for response & advice - 3 responses seem to offer the same advice - leave it alone as it was built in for a reason.
