Hey, there was a '09 Sweet 16 on eBay that just went for over $21,000 and it had an interesting part on the outdrive. Looked like a 2' x 2' carbon fiber "beavertail" mounted on the cavitation plate. Is this something that increases trim capability/stability? I am sure that you guys know what it is, but I have never seen such a thing. Mercruiser part? Cost? :cool!:

I did not get to see the ad but it sounds like the whale tails you can buy from about every boating supply company out there.--

I guess their claim is it helps to get on plane quicker at lower speeds

did it look like these?

I saw the one he's talking about, and it's kinda like a whale tail.............................................. on steroids.

I've never seen one similar to the one in the ebay ad on the '09 16. It's huge.

It was this one... http://reviews.basspro.com/2010/91124/reviews.htm

If you don't have tabs they can help if you need it based on how you run the boat. If you have tabs they will just slow you down.

I had that on my Volvo 270
I could not notice any difference in performance on my X18
When I took it off the boat was about 3mph faster!

OK, good info, sounds like something that I don't need. Got tabs and got decent speed. Best.

The prior owner of my 16 tried a Dolefin on it, problem was when he trimmed up the stern sunk down and speed dropped a bunch. As long as the drive was tucked in it made it plane off very fast with skiers.
