Apparently a 40' powerboat ran aground in the marshes off Long Island Sunday night killing three people and seriously injuring four others. Had to be some speed involved in that one! :frown:

Just finished reading it in the local paper ... Owner was 65 and his wife 46 and a friend - 50 .. So they weren't exactly teenyboppers ...

The boat reportedly stopped 150 feet from the water ... He must have been pretty sure of where he (thought he ) was going . :garfield:

I think I have seen the boat during testing by Hustler, if so it had three diesels with Arnesons. Joe the owner of Hustler who I have talked with on several occasions said it was a 60 MPH boat it was on the conservative side. I ran those water for many years, it is easy to run up on the marshes at extreme high tides like there was that night.

A quote from the Newsday article! It continued straight even when the channel made a dogleg to the left, ran through shallow water, then bounced up onto the marsh island. It came to rest with its stern about 10 yards (30 feet) from the water's end and about 100 yards outside the eastern edge of the channel. All seven people aboard were ejected.

If in fact it was the Arneson boat I am not totally sure the boat was traveling at the rate of speed reported, it may have maintained its cruise what ever that was until impact. A friend put his 34 Silverton up on the mash years back. It was about 20 feet ( about 7 yards) in from the bank, we all have a fair idea of how slow a 34 is. He ended up in real bad shape for several months.

God bless those poor folks and pray for those that did make it!
