Of course everyone carries this stuff, but only in 12' lengths.
However the original rail off the TR is as follows;
Port side 12'-1"
STBD side 12'-1 1/4"
Bow 14'-1"
Stern 14'-1"
Actually, counting the number of holes in the joint, this is probably the second set of rails on the boat.

My question is, how did they manage to get these long pieces????:confused:

Mike, the part # is A11-0152
Lengths of 15' would be great. I would need four pieces of that length.
Thanks.

Truck freight, in 20' sections.

Truck freight, in 20' sections.

That would be fine.
They could stick them inside a 20' section of 3" PVC pipe.

Truck freight, in 20' sections.Sir, do you have what Mr. C is looking for before I call Taco in the AM?

I'd be really interested in some 20 footers. I found some of that length on rubrails.com in the 3/4" size so maybe there's some hope. The 3/4" size would obviously be too small.

Last I checked, the 20' sections were NLA.. I just shipped some 12's a few weeks ago... George, I am going to be in mousetown in three weeks, shipping would be a non factor if you can handle them from there..??

BTW, Taco can make 50' sections.. Minimum order was 25 I believe, I could recheck...
Orlando is only 35 miles away so that's not an issue.

Oh no, not in the biz. Just the info I got from the local dealer some time last year. If Poodle says they aren't offering it, I wouldn't doubt it.

What with everything else he's done , I think if George could do a 'one piece seamless rub rail' it would be the coolest thing around ....

(Just what we've come to expect from him .... :D )

I'm holding my breath.....sort of.
If I have to, I'll resurect the old rail, I was planning on powder coating it anyway.

The first (and last) time I ever drank a Red Stripe was in Grand Cayman in '73 or so and you couldn't get it here.

What do y'all think about platinum????????

Gotta be cheaper than red.
This paint I'm using is $170.00/qt. If it were black, for instance, it'd be less than $100.00/qt.

Same way w/the gelcote.

George,
The reds are always the highest priced paints with their pigments being the most expensive to produce (from what I was told). Just last week, I bought a gallon of Imron black (99U) for $169, but the quart of activator (192) was over $100. Bill

Last week I ordered the 1" J-rail from west marine and I was told that this stuff was lo longer being made. Out of all the West Marine stores in the country only 6 12' were available. I guess I only needed 5 sections but I got the 6 just in case I need a piece in the future. Does anyone have any info on this? I hope the 12' sections are ok to use on my 22 classic? I will see in a few weeks when the boat goes in for new paint. The owner of the shop said he will replace the rail for me at no charge as he has to remove the rail to paint anyway..

There is plenty of the rub rail still available. I have some available in cocoa florida at a whosale house there. They keep it for us because we seem to replace it on every boat we get. Remember that the holes will not match your old stuff. So new holes and you will need new stainless screws since a lot seem to get stripped in our experience anyway. There are still out there so no worries. How much did they charge you at WEST? Tom

I paid $195.00 for 60' at west marine
The screw holes are 6" on center on the old rail and on the new one. How many holes will need to drilled and filled, any idea? Just trying to get an idea..

Don't forget the shipping.
Also note they have 20' sections in the 3/4" J-rail.
If only they had it in 1"!!!!!

Tom,
You can call Alan about the prices. I talked to him last year when I was restoring my 1971 18'. He was a nice and helpful man on the phone. His prices listed online are not up to date as he will tell you, but they aren't too much more. What blew the sale were the shipping charges since long sticks have to be sent carrier freight in PVC tubes if I remember correctly. I ended up ordering mine through Coast Marine which was able to truck deliver to my local West Marine store for a large discount off West pricing. As with any sticks of rubrail, you should always check them out for damage before accepting them since the ends and sometimes the surfaces get dented or scratched in shipment. Taco Metals still makes the rubrails and might be the only manufacturer. http://tacomarine.com/cat--Aluminum-Rub-Rail--cat2_aluminum_rr.html
