Ya know, this kind of "irks" me. Recently, a buddy of mine ( whom I supply, bid on a massive Pallet racking job for a new Monster wharehouse. ( Larger than Costco's ) Anyways, the labour quotient for the install ( not the material, over 2 million pounds of steel ) was $280,000. Long story short, he lost it, due to the labour number. The winning bidder came out of Eastern Canada, new Brunswick to be exact, and the labour force here doing the work has been supplied to this Company via California and migrant workers under the guize of a Canadian Company.

Today, at my other employment, I see a fleet of new 1 ton duallys from Texas, workers and all, employed by a Company in Alberta that won a placing contract for literally thousands of miles of Fiber optic cable for an extensive GPON build. Obviously, through attrition and early retirements and downsizing over the last 9 years we are no longer equipped to support a construction project of this magnitude, but it seems a little one sided when a Canadian Company wins the bid, then imports labour to fill the bill.

???

I can remember being "escorted" back to the US/Can border cuz I had a tape measure on my hip while in the US. The Border Services people ( USA ) told me that an American can measure as good as a Canadian. ( basically, beat it )

...and yet now I see a Compound full of Texas trucks and employees here doing our work? Also aware of the fact that your Stimulus Bill includes provisions for "Buy American" and protectionist guidelines that has many ( here ) up in arms.

I don't get it. Seems one sided. ??? The install job for the pallet racking was reported to CCRA ( Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, basically the equivelant to your IRA ) and all is on the up and up...

What would you think if one of your American Companies won a large contract ( substantial employment ) and filled it with Canadians to carry out the work?

You're right, and it sucks. I think this is the predictable reality of interfering with the free market. (Not our "free market"--a truly free market.) Do yourselves a favor--at least don't let them STAY.

Here in the States, shady companies launder illegal labor and sell it to "legitimate" companies via subcontracting. This undercuts the labor market here. (This disparity sometimes exacerbated by the regulations on wages for citizens.) And then, to top it off, entitlements handed out to the illegals are paid by the taxpayer and to the unemployed citizens who didn't get the work, alike. The true cost of this "cheap" labor is far higher than people think.

You mean, if an American company won a bid and farmed out all the work to China and Mexico/ that would never happen Here:kingme:

If you think we haven't been battling illeagal immigrant workers for years, where have you been? You can go to Orlando and buy a Green Card for $25. I was at the post office in Deland yesterday, and there were more people speaking Spanish than Eglish.

When did the Irish Republican Army invade our government?

Yep Lenny it is Bullsh*t what they did to you. I have places down here where there are close to 40 people milling on a corner waiting for work and they are ALL Illegals from south of the border! I called the police department, INS, News Media and everyone had an excuse on why they would not touch it.
Mostly because it was politically incorrect to deal with it..

My JEEP and my Honda were both built in Canada. Seems like the situation is out of control. LOL!

Randy, while an admirable thought, the USA is hardly alone in the "fences to keep them out not in" category.....

Hey, maybe THAT's the plan to deal with illegals. Remove all the incentives to come here.

Bonnie and I are very leery of the Russians, we had a live in to take care of here mom and dad, she was a thief so we fired here. For several months after wards people would call trying to track here down! A little more we have a high ranking NYC detective in the family, he says the Russians are becoming one of the strongest mobs here. They are brutal no thought of life or limb, keep and eye on them as best you can seems there are very few good ones!
