has anyone ever pondered the thought of a small diesel engine in like an 18 or a 16

is it possible or feasable to build one with enough hp or torque to make this an option that would work well keeping with the weight of a sbc so as to not alter the running profile?

just thinking

found this, doesn't really say what the cost would be or avaliability, or service techs that could be able to keep it running

looks cool though

Years back I remember a diesel in a St. Tropez (I think) for sale. I remember thinking the performance numbers weren't all that bad.

There was an article in one of the boating mags a good few years back where Yanmar had put an inline 6 diesel in a 22 (?)
I'm sure it was a 22 not an 18 .... Will someone correct me ?

The performance was not breathtaking but surprisingly good ... Fuel economy was amazing .

Sounded a bit weird apparently .

I saw the video of it on this site. One exhaust port of course. And yes, it sounded like a 6.
Did about 55 the way it was propped, I believe.

everyone was talking about how good a blackhawk drive might work on a 16

i have an extra drive and a set of 1:32-1 gears for it if there was a motor that could spin a set of 27 or whatnot it might make a cool little boat

just thought a diesel might have the torque required to get the job done

We have some great Volkswagen V6 or V10 TDI Turbodiesel marine engines over here. The V6 is a 265 HP engine with fantastic performance, the V10 is just incredible. In our marina is a 42 Fountain Cruiser with twin Volkswagen V10s and Arnesons, it does relaxed 65 mph and roars like a dino, and fuel consumption is less than half of the Marine Power gasoline 502 V8s it had before. Check them out, with the new lightweight technology they are really an option.

V10 still not included, choose language on top right so I don't have to translate it all, or go here

Speaking of that Yanmar, anyone know how their outdrives are? (They have switched over to selling their own outdrives here, rather than hooking up to Bravos, no?)

What can you tell me about the V10?

We've had great success with the Steyr diesel marine engines, very light (about 600 lbs fully dressed) and high rpm for a decent prop shaft speed for a diesel. Their higher hp models are making 280-300 hp/530 ft lbs tq.

They are fully dressed and a direct bolt in for a Bravo application.

Actually Imco was going to do a package with a duromax, I don't kno what happened. The out drive had to habe a 1:36 and/oe a 1:25 ratio because of the lower Rpms. It almost happened to my Criterion.

They (Imco) had a Duramax in a 21' Nordic, being the diesel runs 3600 rpm and the boat reportedly ran in the 70's, math make it close to a 1.25:1. I think they were using LA Diesel for the engines???

Dominator used the same package in a boat at the LA boat show a few years ago also.

I rode in a VW Toureg with the V10 last week in UK and it was fAst, seems it has a lot more potential than the others and could be the Ilmor of the diesels.

I must say, I do like the sound of Fabio Buzzis' diesels as they run by. high pitched turbo whine and all.
