I happened to stop in a turnpike rest stop and the station (Shell) is selling E85 ($2.169/g vs 87UL 2.569/g). I know most of the basics make it less than desirable but figured I'd ask if anyone has, or knows someone who has, used it for some time and can offer some insight. Between someone asking in Buizilla's thread and me seeing it at the station for the first time, figured I'd ask...

about 10% power loss, and 20% mileage loss is what I hear... the losses overweigh the cheaper price at the pump... my brother had a 2006 Tahoe and it would fall on it's face on E85

I frequently use e-85 for its octane rating and the cool burning nature of the fuel as well as it cost factor VS race fuels it does use approx 30% more fuel comparatively with lets say 93 octane I run injectors in the 1000 cc range and two twin turbo Porsche pumps to deliver the volume of fuel necessary to run my boost in the 30 lb range and keep the knock sensors in check as I use a haltec full stand alone for timing, injector duty and cycle flow, two step control and several other functions. the benefit for me is the fact that it is less than $2.25 a gallon and 110 low lead VP fuel is about $ 10.00 a gal!!!

Hope this helps

The quick rule of thumb: if you buy e85 at 20% less than 87 octane ($2.50/gal 87oct = $2.00/gal e85), it's a wash. If you fill your tank half and half (e85 and 87 octane) you will experience your best mileage with your vehicle (straight 87 oct second best mileage, straight e85 is worst mileage). I learned this from a GM rep at a trade show as well as experienced it with my '07 Corvalanche (flexfuel Corvette edition Avalanche (basically same as a regular Avalanche).
