Just picked up Zimm's boat. Driving back from DC with first 22c. Has blown 454. Already have another 454 magnum. Need opinions on how to setup. Want to go 70-75mph. Has full hydraulic steering, bravo1 w/Imcoa shorty, carbureted, dana marine exhaust, and roller rockers on stock heads. Need carb and cam recomendations. Mike and matt (trueser) will be helping me out.
Thanks in advance
Howie

Can't help you much, but there certainly are some awesomely qualified gearheads on this board that can! My '88 22C has the 454 mag with Edelbrock manifold and an 850 Holley doublepumper, Accel ignition, roller rockers, etc. I am sure that it is my driving, but the most speed that I have been able to coax out of it is 60 - 65 GPS. It will run right up to that with no problem. Mine has the Mirage SS 27p 3 blade prop, which may or may not be having an effect. Will be interesting to see what suggestions come up.

Probably won't be cheap to reach your goal with the n/a 454 but Mike will know what it takes.

If that is a 1.5 drive I would think you are over-propped. Is it a Mirage or Mirage Plus? What is you max rpm, should be near 5000.

truiser know who to get ahold of.as for cam i have my favorite's which are custom grinds and for carbs my favorite would be a aerosol carb, holly look alike but way better..to acheve 75+ their are alot of things you can do to your 454 to make it stout but i dont want to step on anybodys toes:)

I think that you guys are right on about the Mirage SS 27p being too much prop. I took the 22C out this afternoon and paid attention to speed, rpm, etc. Max rpm that this motor is turning is about 4100 rpm, boat is running a little over 60 mph. I think that the forum has advised that stock prop on the 454 mag is a 23p. If I get one of these, what happens to the rpm and the speed?

RPM's up, speed should go up also..

dont you think a 25P would be a better choice?

I wouldn't worry about stepping on anyone's toes. I'm open to anyone's opinion so that I can make a better decision when it comes time to getting the motor ready. I just want to hear what's out there and what works for you or anyone else.

Nice grab Howie. The way I look at it, with the exhaust and shorty that came with it, you will get more bang for your buck anyway you decide to do it.

You should definitely be going faster. I am running close to 65mph with a STOCK 7.4/330 Alpha1 with a cleaver 21p @ 4600 rpms (ish).

Cheap and boat should never be used in the same sentance.
