96 Donzi Classic 22 with a carburated 454.

According to the link below, the fuel pump needs 'servicing' when you remove the gear oil fill plug and smell gas.

Exactly what needs to be serviced?

Thanks

because theirs no engine getting in the fuel pump they reccomend replcing the oil or gear lube in the sea water pump..theirs a cam attached the the seapump shaft which rides on the fuel pump lever which gives you fuel pressure.remove both screws in the side of the housing and drain the oil out..install the lower plug then fill fron the top hole til it comes out ten reinstall the plug..use merc hp drive lube to fill.

Thanks for the reply. What causes the lube to smell like gas in the first place?

How much old lube should I expect to catch when doing the change?

Thanks

the fuel smell would be fron a leaking diaphram, you may get some seapage from it but if the oil comes gushing out when you pull the top plug then you need t replace the fuel pump..if its level just change it, they only hold a few ounces..

What's the best way to fill the new oil? Small hose attached to the bottle of new oil? It seems kind of awkward down there, not a lot of room to pour.

Thanks again.
