View Full Version : Replace Ignition Sensor & Wheel When Tuning Up?

1996 Donzi Classic 22, carburated 454 w/ Thunderbolt ignition is running rough/stalling at at idle. Other than that, it's O.K.

Should I replace the ignition sensor and sensor wheel when doing a complete tune up?

Should I suspect the ignition module to be faulty?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

IMO, it's a carb problem...

you have the Weber carb right?

I don't know, it's not my boat, but I'm going to be tuning it up for a friend.

Should the sensor & sensor wheel should be replaced while I'm in there doing that cap & rotor?

Thanks

Original sensor in my 86 they either work or they don't there is no in between! Get into fuel, wires and plugs your problem is with that group.

I agree that this is most likely a carb issue but there is an in between when it comes to pickup coils. Over the years I have replaced a few that ran fine in the lower rpm range but would lose signal above 3000 rpm.

I agree except his issue is on the bottom end, I would do the normal tune up, I doubt if he will have to go farther.

Thanks for the replies. I should also mention that the boat ran fine, until we added ~10 gallons of gas, then it started acting up.

I also can't find any info regarding tune up intervals. For instance, how many hours should I expect to get out of:

Plugs
Wires
Cap & rotor
Fuel Filter

Thanks again.

Like Buiz said, you probably have carb issues..if you have a webber those fuel float bowls in the carb are tiny and collect a ton of chit..if youe mechaiclly inclined pull the top of the carb off but be careful of the gasket not to tear it and look under the floats, their may be this clear jelly crap that plugs the little ports in the carb...also pull the screens under the leedle and seats, thean them or toss them in the garbage, they will only get pluged again..
