Just installed a new alpha 1 drive and gimbel bearing on a classic 22. There is a noticable hum at low end. Hard to determine if it is still there at higher rpm's.
At first it was only there in gear. Now seems to be there in gear and in neutral.

Would you define "NEW"?

It is probably the hum of the supercharger that someone sneaked in and installed as a joke.

George maybe the same after market one you had, if so it will quiet down soon.

I was wondering why I picked up so many MPH's. Those sneaky son of a b's snuck that supercharger on there without me knowing....hmmmm
Brand new outdrive from Mercruiser. Not an aftermarket. But they did sneak a supercharger on there without me knowing....NOT

My brand new one did the same thing. Very noticeable on land. Pretty much faded away after about an hour on the water. I was skeptical for a while but couldn't find anything wrong. I think it was just the new water pump wearing in.
