I am new to boating and recentlypurchased a 1987 thnudercraft boat with a 120 hp mercruiser engine and an alpha one drive unit. The motor was rebiult approx 2 years ago. However, when the rebiuld was done the owner at the time had already purchased anither boat. The boat sat around until he decided to sell it. The motor turns over with no problem, the battery is brand new and there is spark. There appears to be no fuel reaching the carb. The motor will run if i pour gas down the throat of the carb but when I stop it also stops shortly after. I took apart the pump and there does not appear to be anything out of the ordinary with regards to seals or gaskets being damaged. It just seems that the fuel is not being drawn from the tank. Any ideas???

Bad fuel pump, plugged intake pickup in tank, plugged up carb, plugged fuel filters.

run it on a test tank and check fuel pickup in tank

Also check the fitting at the tank there is a ball check(anti siphon valve)that can stick if it was allowed to dry out.
