Hello,

I am spending the holiday weekend at Moose Head Lake and have never even been there, or any part of Maine for that matter. Doing some fishing and traveling to Bar Harbor for a day trip. Any advise on anything I should do (other than consume tons of lobster) or should not miss. Going in blind

Hi, Ive only snowmobiled across it in winter. It the biggest lake in new england I think. Very rural place, lots of sportsman up there. Your close to baxter state park about 1 hr east as the crow flies. Watch out for the moose standing in the road at nite, they wont move:yes:.http://www.mooseheadlake.org/moosehead.shtml Bring a sweater or 3:kingme:, It was 39* here this am..........:kingme:

My favorite place in Bar Harbor continues to be Getty's ... It is always busy and great fun (It is pronounced as if it is spelled Jetty's). Good food and drinks and not at the tourists prices. Also buy your lobsters at the IGA/gas station on the way in town. Save big $$

I'm washing every warm thing I own. Had to buy another pair of jeans and socks. As for jacket who knows lots of layers and burbon. I haven't fresh water fished in 25 years. If they hand me a fly rod it's going to be lobster every day

Poodle's talking about Jordan Pond House in Acadia Nat'l Park,
and Thunder Hole.

While you're on shore at Moosehead, bringh plenty of mosquito dope, we've had a very wet summer here in the northeast, and if the weather is warm they'll be out and hungry.

Tell us more about Moosehead, It's a place I want too boat, a family friend supposedly built a huge tower close to the water up there . . .
from what I heard Stevie and Mustang went up there once 2 years ago with his 80 mph X18 . . . .

First off thanks everyone for chiming in.

Secondly I hope you're not messin with me with 80 because 39 made me nervous. Maybe the new storm will drag up some nice warn Florida temps. Down here I think anything below 70 is a little sketchy( spent 20 years outside Detroit and 23 in Naples).

I'm very lucky to stay right on thr lake and have access to a boat, a car, and atv's. Feel like a little kid on Xmas eve. Cannot wait to go

Just a frost warning for the north country. 39* was yesterdays low at 6am..Today its 45* at 6am:yes:. You have a real nice forecast through the weekend. No worries:lobster:, If ya going to bar harbor for the day. I suggest ya leave early in the am, All back roads to BH ....... Moosehead lake is in the middle of No where. Abuts the allagash wilderness area to the north. Moosehead lake is surrounded by thousands and thousands of acres of paper company forest. Goggle the "golden road" in Maine if ya get a chance. This 100 mile road goes all the way to Canada and runs through the largest contiguous private forest in N America. Go for a float plane ride and see it.

Head up to Long Lake...it connects to Brandy Pond...Take Brandy Pond down through the Songo River and into the Songo Locks...This will take you through the rest of the river into Sabago Lake! Its an amazing little trip. The Sango Queen is running this time of year...its a great sight!

it's all relative, you may need a down jacket for what we consider nice warm weather in the northeast.

OK I'm in Greenville. It is stupid beautiful here. The backroads are an awesome ride. Fishing, drinking and eating lobsters like it's my job. The weather has been unseasonable warm and perfect 80 and dry during the day and upper 50s at night . Only need a fleece at night and still wearing sandals ..Bar Harbor on Saturday.
P.S been asked twice "your not from around here are you?" must have been the fact I was throwing out beer bottles!!

A couple things you need to do when you get to Bar Harbor or Mt Desert Island.
1,Say hi for me
2, Watch the sun rise from Mt Cadillac. You will be the first in the continental U.S to see the sun. You will also see the earth move. I mean it you will see the earth rotate like you have never before.
3, Like M/P said While in Acadia check out Jordan Pond and the tea house. If you are early enough you will have a view like this.

When in town,
4, Stop at Geddys The nachos on a old hubcap are awesome. Don’t forget to go down stairs for neat stuff. http://www.geddys.com/ (http://www.geddys.com/)
5, Stewman’s on the wharf for just lobster
6, The restaurant at the corner of Main and Rodick Pl has got great mussels.
7, Visit Seal Cove on the other side of the island. Very pretty.
8, Get lobsters to travel at the IGA/Exxon gas station on Rt 3 After you leave the island.
7, Get your T shirts at the Walmart on Rt 3 before you get there or on the way out. You have to go past it no matter what. Except for things like Geddys . They wont have that but will have Bar Harbor stuff.

Its really foggy (pea soup) up there cause the ocean so COLD. It takes hours for the sun to burn it off, if at all along the coast. The morning are nippy on the Mo-Mo. Aug-Sept the month to go. Better weather, Didnt make it to the trail....all most, sh*t happened.:frown:
