 Overheated an exhaust valve.........RUST!!
This is what I have,
350 Chvy Engine Code 3970010
Head code 3978487 with 202 intakes
I had them boiled and checked for cracks-O.K.
The machine shop did not want to warranty said $500 to redo (without new valves):shocking:

hey you guys know me I am no motor head,
I just want give some more info if the numbers don't :
the mech said these are rare heads the motor was built with all the HP options
it has " high dome pistons" and we believe this is a 350/350hp chris craft motor
it also has the markings of a corvette motor on it
hope that helps

just a thought, did you see the 20 cig on ebay for 22K

3973487....71-72...350..........1.94/1.5 or 2.02/1.6 valves, was also used on '71 350/330hp LT1, 75cc chamber
no such animal as 8487
if you can put a fingernail between the valve heads they aren't 202-160... if you can, they are 202-150, nothing wrong with that if you put a 30* back cut on the exh valve.....
0010 block can be either 2 or 4 bolt...
if I remember tomorrow i'll check what I have on an engine core that's buried..

that is great info that adds some more history to the boat that we didn't have that is the original motor
it was rebuilt by the previous owner after the boat sank they put a hot cam in it and the boat wouldn't idle he got tired of hitting docks so they went to a more mild cam then it sat for 15 years before Kenny got it

You are correct. 3973487
The 3 and 8 are hard to tell apart on these castings. Also, 202 intake and 1.6 exhaust.

71-72 years only.. LT1
alum or cast intake?
solid or hyd cam? in a car it was solid... not sure what yours has.. if it's hyd it could be one of two different grinds.. in fact, todays 350-330 GM crater uses the same hyd cam if thats what it is

Matty,
We don't have to leave you on the dock now............this is what Jim and I came up with.
Edelbrock Performer RPM Cylinder heads (70 cc)
New longer Push rod set required when going from cast to aluminum
Head and up gasket set (copper ring)
This should lighten the engine a bit and add some compression.:cool!:
Hopefully will be back in the water for Labor Day w/e.
Thanks Jim for all your help

I am surprsied to hear that the Vortec 330HP uses the same cam as the old LT1 with hydraulic lift. I installed a 330 Vortec in my 1971 18' Donzi that I restored last year, but it originally came with the 350/350HP LT1 which had the solid lift cam and 11:1 compression.
CC package was an LT-1 setup, with a hydraulic cam.. My 18 had that same engine..
The CC marinized LT1 in my 1971 Donzi 18' originally came with the solid lift cam. 350/350HP with 11:1 compression. It even came originally with the Corvette flags on the valve covers. It lasted for around 1600 hours before giving up to the unleaded gas in around 1984. I did not own it at that time, but one of my best friends did. Bill

I believe I had these exact same heads on my 1970 Stingray, 350-350 HP 202 heads, with 11:1 compression engine. For several years I had an overheating problem I could not find. I removed the heads twice and had them checked for cracks at two different machine shops. I eventually found a crack leaking to the outside of the head. It was very hard to find. The car could idle for 30 minutes in the driveway and be normal. And then go down the road and about 10 miles later it would start to over heat. I replaced both of them with dart heads from Summit Performance about eight years ago for around $800 for the pair, and am very pleased with the performance.

487s are 9:1 heads. Used on the later 70's LT1. I have the same ones on my my Magnum.
