from Sterling Service Warehouse on their Ebay store. Case price with shipping of $6.95 per unit versus $10.50-$12.50 plus shipping, everywhere else I looked. Okay, okay, I promise no more Fram HP4's for me, just WIX 51060R's from now on...

Check it out...

I am going to hold onto the case Randy, as I might try to use them on the Formula, as well as the Donzi. Won't know until I try it during decommissiong and winterizing in November.

It IS a good deal.

Hey Randy, I might go in on a case wit you. I only use two at a time once a year, I would probably lose all of them anyway cause I can't find crap in my garage when I really need it most. PM me or let me know if ya want,
tom

Does anyone know the physical size of these? Meaning, are they the stock height or are they like the taller Mobil 1 filters that hold about another half quart?

I'm still hung up on the 4.5 quarts per engine thing, I'd prefer to get 5 (or close to it) in there if I can.

Found the info...

Short-3.8" height-Wix 51086 Napa 1086
Medium-4.4" height- Wix 51069 Napa 1069
Tall-5.1" height- Wix 51060 Napa 1060

I'm not sure how big the Merc one is, but I'm guessing it's the same as the "short"

I am using the 51060 on my 18. No problems. I was considering the racing filter until I talked to a rep at Wix. For a stock boat they do not recommend the racing filters, has something to do with the by-pass. The rep also told me that the oil and filter(s) are changed after each race ( in the automotive world ). Don't know what they would recommend for a high h.p. boat motor.

I read more about them and basically found out they aren't good for me at all. I don't think I'd run them even on a high HP marine engine without some kind of additional filtration. It was a good education at least... I'm going back to the filters I know

because it is what my high perf marine engine builder shipped the motor with and suggested I utilize going forward. Who am I to argue? Afterall, I figure he should know.

You don't even want to know what he wants me to use for engine oil. But you know what, I'll follow his instructions, because why?
Yep, afterall, I figure he should know.

To each their own, I just posted a good buy...

and then we can talk fuel additives after that... not sure there has ever been a war here over that topic.

Wasn't knocking the deal, or the decision on your custom built engine.

You got my curiosity peaked because you mentioned the Formula... I'd stay away from them on that boat after reading the details on the filters. just a whole different application is all I'm getting at.

Um, actually you were questioning utilizing them on an "HP marine application", which is exactly what my "custom built engine" is.

As I said earlier, I'll stick to the recommendation my engine builder gave me, which is fairly credible in my book, whether your research supports it or not.

Now on to oils and fuel additives...
