I am very interested in buying an 18ft Donzi between the years 1995 to 2005 for less than $15,000 and wonder what year would be the best from a price/performance standpoint. Are there are some years that I should avoid for mechanical reasons? :boggled:

Spend 3k more and buy Pearson's 18 and not only have one of the nicest 18's ever but no worries about anything

Actually pearson's 18 is only $14500, the trailer is worth $3500.

I will third that. His 18 is "beyond" what you can fathom.

That is what I would be doing if I had 15K in my pocket for an ( another) 18. NO QUESTION

dbm_nj, Scott Pearson's 18 would really be a good buy if you like that sort of thing and if it's within your budget. I doubt he wants to part it out, though. That would be a question for him alone. It's a great boat and was restored very well. It's basically a new old boat. If you stick with a later model, I would go as close to a 2005 that I could get. There are several in the For Sale section that have been on for a while. Just do a search for '18 classic' or something like that. Good luck!

Buy Pearsons, trailer and all and be at the top of the food chain ( instantly ).

That is a steal

You will kick yourself for passing on this if you have 15 put aside for one. The trailer is NEW, as in a few months old.

Have to agree with the rest of them. Not within your year range, but it is pretty close to brand new. Just a beautiful boat overall and a steal at 18K.

I agree - looks like a beauty, but not for me. I am rough on boats :smash:- I would need to bottom paint it & leave it moored in a salt water river for the season. I am also not crazy about the color orange. :lookaroun:

I am just beginning my search so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Walk away from this boat  To see it live in that environment would be a travesty.

Lots of boats out there

Yikes.

Sounds like a CC with an outboard would be a better choice.

get a baja:alligator
I am curious about this suggestion... why a Baja? and I don't understand the meaning of the "alligator" symbol.

I think the Baja suggestion was implying that you wouldn't want to take such a spectacular example of a classic Donzi, put bottom paint on it, and let it sit in salt water for a season.

Someone who would do this to such a boat appears to be demonstrating a lack of true appreciation for what a Donzi is, especially this particular Donzi, and as such, they would be content with a Baja.

And just for the record, my 16 Donzi has bottom paint, and its history includes many years of salt water use. But I am currently trying to erase all that
